Aldis?

Anyone ever heard or shopped at Aldis? I see that there is one in Bayshore and I have heard you can save a lot. Just wondering if anyone had an experiences they could share.

I don't live on LI, but I really love shopping at Aldi. I shop there every two weeks or so. Their fruit and veg are really well priced as are their continental meats (salami, parma ham, things like that) Also their own brand chocolates are fantastic...choco toffee are amazing. omg. Must go to Aldi tomorrow. Also, what else do I buy there, eggs are cheap, butter, sugar, they do their own brand cream cheese that I really like, hmmm, oh their free range chickens are substantially cheaper than the big names supermarkets...I say give it a go! Bring your own bags.

The cashier will ring you up quickly and throw, and I mean throw your stuff back into your shopping cart, you are then expected to go to another area to bag up your groceries. Its all very European darling.

That's awesome! I don't live on LI either but I figured I would give a point of reference in case nobody knew what I was talking about. There is another supermarket like that around here that does the whole, bring your own bag and pack it yourself thing. I wasn't impressed with their stuff though, it was all crap really and I didn't feel that I saved any money really. I mainly shop at Stop and Shop lately because of the gas points (my DH drives a truck and it is a fortune to fill it up) He was able to fill his tank for less than a hundred bucks last week. But the groceries are just so expensive I am not sure what we are really saving in the end. I heard they have cookies by Benton (I think) that are actually just girl scout cookies repackaged. Gotta get me some of those!
Thanks for the response!

I wonder if they would sell the cookies in your store too. The brand name is Benton's. I actually found about Aldi's and the cookies from a blog I read. Here is the link to see the package. Its obvious they are Girl Scout Cookies. I wonder how different the offerings are in the store by country?

Benton's Mention

Probably because their business model means that they only carry their own brand of food. Which is actually the brand name food packaged under their own name (which is exactly what regular supermarkets do make their store brand stuff)

If only Aldi did TJ's products here! What I love about Aldi is that their own brand products are packaged to look just like the brand names! and the names are quite similar!!

Re: Aldis?

I live in Germany and I don't shop in Aldi Chat Icon . The boxes and the set-up drive me batty (I'm not sure how it is in the US) and a lot of supermarkets are setup like that here. I just can't stand it, so I shop in the few normally setup supermarkets that are here.

That being said, I've become an expert in packing up my groceries super fast Chat Icon .

ETA: that probably didn't help you at all! I can say though that it is probably an experience in the US, so it's worth a visit. I think my situation is completely different as the supermarkets suck here, and I almost always have to go to at least three different supermarkets a week for different things. I swear it is always something different. One week there isn't spinach, one week I can't find diced tomatoes, etc. It's really annoying. After all this with their "normal" supermarket chain (Rewe/Spar), the last thing I want to do is set foot in an Aldi. Sorry. Ok vent over, lol.
