Crushed red pepper
Dh loves crushed red pepper and I like to use a pinch here and there when cooking... he loves to cover his pizza in it. He stopped using it cause he has diverticulosis and can not eat seeds. Is there a ground version? I only see cayenne and I swear it does not taste the same as crushed red pepper.... maybe I am nuts, but I just don't feel its the same!
ahhh... so many things have seeds and nuts in them!

Re: Crushed red pepper
i agree, cayenne pepper does not taste similar to crushed red pepper.
do you think you could take the crushed pepper and grind it yourself? maybe in a food processor or even a coffee grinder? just an idea...

Yup, this is what I was going to recommend. My dad puts red pepper on EVERYTHING and this is what my mother always used to do. She buys the regular crushed red pepper and puts it in a chopper and grinds it into a powder.

Thanks so much L! Did she do it fresh each time or can you do a bunch and store it? Did he do it because of diverticulosis too? guess i will being buying a grinder!

Re: Crushed red pepper
Nope, she would do the entire jar at once and then just store it with the rest of the spices. And no, dad doesn't have diverticulitis (though my sister does)....they just think it tastes better that way.
ETA: do you have a chopper? Like a handy-chop? No need for a grinder, my mom always used her mini-chopper.
