Yeah, the newer ships have newer technology and are able to detect anything that looks out of the ordinary and will go through the luggage and investigate. I had my iron hidden VERY well and have been able to take it on other cruises before but they took it right away from me and I had to go to the "naughty" room to identify it-lol!! and then come back for it on our way out of the ship. There were TONS of irons and alcohol in that "naughty" room-lol.

Unbelievable! lol I have always understood the no iron rule and the safety issues behind it but DH would go nuts if it didn't have his iron, the man irons everything!

I just prefer to follow the rules in that regard - I don't want to possibly throw away a 2,000 vacation just because I want to save 100 bucks.

You can send things out to pressed if need be. I would probably only spend the money on that for a formal night outfit though. You can buy travel sized Downy Wrinkle release. On Princess, they have coin operated self service laundry rooms with irons that you can use for free. DH did that for one of his button -downs, but don't do it ON the formal night--it gets crazy.

You may also want to buy a shower organizer if you use a lot of pruducts.
I read this tip on Cruise Critic, but didn't have time to look for one & ended up knocking things off the tiny shelf in the shower constantly.

So you don't have to iron, I put dresses and dress shirts in plastic dry cleaner bags.

Re: Tips for a 1st time Cruiser

I am going on my 6th cruise in 2 weeks!
They are addicting!

I bring my own slim hangers, so i can hang most of my items, they are easy to pack and don't take up much room at all.

I also bring alot of electronics and i bring a power strip so i can plug all our stuff in, also hairdryers and flat irons

Enjoy your vacation!

Some cruise ships confiscate the power strips because it can cause power outages. I recommend this Belkin Mini Surge Protector because it has 3 AC outlets and 2 powered USB ports. It's small enough that it's less likely to be detected and it doesn't have a power cord.
