laundry detergent & tips
We have a sort of new washer/dryer (it came with the house and seems new, but not sure how new and we didn't pick it out). It doesn't seem to be cleaning clothes well, or I'm doing something wrong. our clothes don't smell fresh anymore. I started a new detergent (tide free and clear) so maybe it's the detergent? What do you use? Do your clothes smell fresh? Any tips for getting my clothes cleaner and smelling fresher?

What kind of washer is it? Front Load or Top Loader?

Baking Soda for freshness.
Does it have a self cleaning cycle? Run it with some bleach.

Re: laundry detergent & tips
i was using All Free and Clear when my daughter was born for a couple months....i HATED not having any scent to my clothes, they were just blah i cant describe it.
now that my daughter is older and doesnt have sensitive skin we are using Tide with the Downy in it. With my and my husbands i use additional Downy as well.
Free and Clear detergents give you NO smell. so try switching.

We use Tide Free & Clear most of the time but I think my fabric softener makes all the difference. Suavitel and Downy are the best!!

Re: laundry detergent & tips
you should leave the door of the machine open for a little so the excess water inside dries. otherwise the washer will start smell. They sell a clorox solution that cleans the machine out and keeps them fresh! I have a new machine, and the new machines use HE detergent only. I also like to use snuggle or downy fabric softener. definately keeps my clothes smelling fresh!

Yah, I agree with previous posters that it's the free and clear. It stinks because DS gets bad eczema flare ups when I use any other detergent besides the free and clear. I am obsessed with the smell of Gain I wish I could use it again :(

I leave the door to the washer open after a cycle. Also I open the dryer too.
I use the Clorox washer product once a month and it really cleans the washer.
I also use Gain.
Clothes and towels smell great.
Remember to change the lint filter on the dryer.

Re: laundry detergent & tips
It's because of the Tide Free and Clear. I use All free. Anything scented kills my skin.
Anyway, the smells we associate with "Clean laundry" don't come from the laundry actually being clean, but from the heavy perfumes in the detergent. Tide Free cleans just as well as regular tide but it lacks the scent. You won't have that yummy smell when you pull the clothes out, but you'll get used to it.
I have to say I do miss the smell since i use All Free, I use the Free dryer sheets and no fabric softener, but my skin definitely thanks me for it.
I also have to use unscented deodorant, hand soap, etc etc.
I miss all those yummy smells.
But rest assured, your clothes are clean.
