Prenatal yoga?
Before my BFP I used to practice yoga at least once a week (bikram). Obviously the doc told me to cut it out since the heat can get me and baby very sick. Now that I'm in the 2nd tri, I am considering prenatal yoga. Has anyone taken a class? Is it just deep breathing or poses as well? I really miss practicing, and I do some poses at home,, but it's not the same as going to a class. Also, any BTDT, can I take a regular non heated class or is the stretching too much?
TIA!!!

Re: Prenatal yoga?
I was doing hot yoga pre-PG too. I did Bikram and hot vinyasa (Barkan style).
Bikram's wife has a PG DVD if you're interested. The instructors at my studio have taken her live classes and say she's absolutely wonderful.
I started doing the DVD in the 1st trimester. It's basically the same sequence, but modified for PG. It takes approximately an hour. I do it in the regular temperature of my house, 5x's a week.
It's kind-of hard to find. Here's a link to her page.

Re: Prenatal yoga?
I have taken Bikram in the past and am currently taking Prenatal Yoga at Balace Yoga in Huntington Station.
I really like the class. I go on Saturdays. Good Luck! Prenatal yoga classes are hard to find.

Thanks for the responses! I'm looking into both the video and that class. Can't wait to get back into yoga

Re: Prenatal yoga?
I did prenatal yoga throughout my last pregnancy and have been doing it this one as well. I LOVE it! I really believe my practice last time was a big contributing factor to what an easy and smooth delivery I had. It can definitely be strenuous- I always leave there feeling like a got a good workout, but relaxed at the same time. We do mostly poses, as well as some breathing. We do a lot of poses to help with hip opening, to prepare for delivery, we learn poses that can be helpful during labor to ease pain and work through contractions, and the teacher always asks if anyone is having any particular pain that week and will do different poses to help relieve that pain. It is safe to go to regular yoga as well (but if you do, make sure you tell the instructor that you are pregnant, because some of the poses are not safe during pregnancy and she can modify them for you, or at least tell you not to do those poses). I don't know where you are located, but there are a lot of places that offer prenatal yoga. I can recommend 2 in Massapequa, both on Broadway. New Baby Belly and Om Tara Yoga. I have done both and loved them both! HTH!

Re: Prenatal yoga?
I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED prenatal yoga when I was pregnant with ! I haven't started with this pregnancy yet, mostly b/c I'm afraid of running into someone I know or work with and I'm still in hiding.
I would do prenatal and not regular since there are some poses you shouldn't do and only a prenatal-certified instructor would know. If you know of a regular class taught by someone that also knows prenatal, then you can ask if they'd be willing to tell you what to do and not do.
