Need Formula help

Aly has been very upset the last few days - she is in pain when passing gas and shes crying a lot more during the day and up a lot at night - shes also spitting up more often. I took her to the dr today to make sure she wasnt sick. He said she has colic and I can try a SOY formula and see if that helps. If not, go back to the regular and usually this passes around 3 mths of age.

Shes been on Similiac advance. He was going to give me samples of the soy similac but didnt have any so gave me the Enfamil samples. (just a few)

I read that its harsh on the stomach to change brands. But I see that the Enfamil box shows a chart that says it has the same amount of DHA as breast milk and similac has a few mg less. would you believe this or is Enfmil just stating that because similac is its competitor? I wonder if this is true? So my questions:

1. do I keep her on similac as to not change brands and upset her stomach more and just not use the few samples he gave me?

2. does Enfamil really have more things similar to breast milk and is better than Similac?

3. did anyone switch to soy and have better luck with colic?

TIA for your input ladies. sorry so long.

Re: Need Formula help

Try the Enfamil Gentlease formula. I BF and supplement and the ped told me this is closest to BM and is made for babies with gas. We love it! After trying 3 formulas, this one works best for Grace.

Re: Need Formula help

My daughter sydney was doing the same thing so i took her to a Gastro Doc and she said i was giving her to much food and not spacing it enough..so i made sure i would give her food 3-4 hours and in between the doc said i could give her malox 1/2 teaspoon and it worked and she is a completely different child. Also i switched her to Enfamil Lactofree...good luck

Oh Dawn! I hope Aly feels better. I would go out and buy the Soy Similac and not use the ones he gave you. JMO. But than again, he is the ped and if he thought it wouldn't be fine on her stomach--he wouldn't have given them to you.

Did you say anything about this? Like try this and buy the Soy Similac also and try that???

I am giving her many Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Need Formula help

we use enfamil at the NICU i work at. personally i like it so much better than similac. i have listened to many a lecture from both companies about what is better and personally blah blah blah. i think its a competition thing. i think enfamil tastes better that's why i use it. my friend switched from bf to soy and her baby is doing MUCH better. good luck

He was on Similac and we switched to Enfamil. He had no problems. It was the best decision we ever made.

Same here. We actually went through a bunch of formulas before settling on enfamil lactose free.

Our ped said brand does not matter.
