If you have GD, what do you eat??

I do not have it or at least I do not know if I do since I dont go for my 1 hour test for another 2 weeks but I was at the Dr. yesterday and I gained more weight then I should have so the dr told me i could follow a GD diet if I wanted to but I dont know what to eat.

1st problem is I am a very picky eater, I dont like beans, I dont like brown rice but I like veggies Chat Icon

Can anyone help me with some ideas on what I can eat daily??

TIA

Re: If you have GD, what do you eat??

I asked about GD the other day since I had it with my first pregnancy. That was 6 years ago and so I didn't remember my diet. I asked here on the board and a couple of girls shared the breakdown of their eating plan with me. I copy and pasted it into an email so I wouldn't forget it, so I'll re copy and paste for you!

Here was one response:
I have 3 meals and 3 snacks a day with carbs spread out like this (1 carb = 15g):

breakfast - 1 carb
morning snack - 1 carb
lunch 3 carbs
afternoon snack - 2 carbs
dinner - 4 carbs
bedtime snack - 1 carb

I'm not supposed to have fruit or milk until lunch - though I find I can have an apple at morning snack.

try to eat whole grains, and make sure you eat protein (which includes cheese) with every carb.

Re: If you have GD, what do you eat??

And here was another response:

I'm allowed
For breakfast:
1 starch, 1 meat/substitute, 1 fat

For snack:
1 starch, 1 fruit 1 meat/substitute, 1 fat

For lunch:
2 starch, 1 milk, 1 nonstarchy vegetable, 2 meat/substitute, 2 fat

For snack:
1 starch, 1 fruit, 1 meat/substitute, 1 fat

For dinner:
2 starch, 1 fruit, 2 nonstarchy vegetables, 3 meat/substitute, 2 fat

For snack:
1 starch, 1 meat/substitute, 1 fat

(she said that 1 starch=15g carbs for her!)

Re: If you have GD, what do you eat??

I have a booklet with the GD diet in it that my SIL gave me (she had GD and got the booklet from her nutritionist)

I can copy it for you on Monday and give it to you if you want.

Are you still in/around Bayshore? FM me if you want it!

With the menu I posted, I have actually lost weight. My total weight gain this pregnancy is only 5 pounds. I do have plenty to spare though. Chat Icon
