Thyroid Question

I am on meds because i was told my thyroild levels were high..Just curiuos..does that mean i have an overactive or underactive thyroid?

I'm assuming i had this condition before i got pregnant since they caught it when i was 3 weeks pregnant.

This happened to me. Never had a thyroid problem in my life, no one in my family did either and then at 12 weeks at my bloodwork appt my thyroid level was elevated and needed the Synthroid to level it out. I stopped taking it after delivery and have my 6 week post partum checkup tomorrow and am getting the blood re-done to see if the levels are still high, if they are normal it was most likely pregnancy related, which im assuming because i have no family history of it. I haven't had any of the symptoms that I did at 12 weeks. If your on medication I would assume hypothyroid (i think overactive) like I had but im no doctor.

Crashing to let you know that if your TSH levels were high, then your thyroid is underactive, so you are hypothyroid.

I am hypothyroid normally and when I was pregnant my levels went up higher quickly so I had to be checked often and keep changing my dosage.

If your levels normal before it could be related to the pregnancy - so many hormones affect/are affected by the thyroid. It could go back to normal after you have the baby.

thanks.....was trying to figure out if it was overactive or underactive.
I was having an extra hard time losing some extra pounds that i had gained after my miscarriage in April..and so i'm wondering if maybe that's why.

do they mean your tsh? i would ask specifically which thyroid hormone is high because i know my ob's office kept insisting i was hypothyroid when i was really hyper because they couldn't figure out the inverse relationship between tsh and the level of activity.

i'm hyper and am on methimazole but i have a great endo monitoring me pretty closely. from what my endo said, hyper/hypo thyroid is very treatable. for me, having a hyper thyroid made ms so severe for me that i started becoming hyperemetic. so i had to aggressively treat the thyroid for about 2 wks because before i was trying to get away with little meds and being undertreated...
