western suffolk?

so maybe this is impossible, but are there any western suffolk towns, with reasonable taxes that are an hour/hour fifteen or less on the lirr during peak times (so with express trains), with decent schools?

i'm really not too familiar with suffolk..

Re: western suffolk?

I've found the most reasonable taxes to be in the Ronkonkoma area. Our taxes will be under $7k with star and that was kind of high for the area. I think the train is about an 1-1 1/2 hours but don't quote me on that.

Re: western suffolk?

I live in Farmingdale but in Suffolk. Taxes are cheaper here than in the Nassau part. The goods are good....not great but coming from a teacher family I am comfortable sending my kids to the schools.

I take the train in to Penn everyday and its 45-55 mins depending on the train. I take a 657am and Farmingdale is the first stop and then it only stops at Bethpage, Hicksville and Penn.

We have been here for almost 2 years and very happy with our decision. We were in Lindenhurst before that.

Re: western suffolk?

I am in West Islip and my dh commutes to downtown everyday...

I think getting into the city is a little over an hour and getting door to door is 1.5 hours. He is in Battery Park.

I live in Islip and the 5:58 a.m. express takes just over an hour (arrives in Penn at 7:04). I walk to my office from Penn so that makes a big difference. I used to work downtown and that added an extra 30 min to my commute.

Islip is a great location with a small town feel. We have restaurants, bars, starbucks, stores, loads of hair salons for some reason Chat Icon and the schools are very good.

Re: western suffolk?

I live in Lindenhurst, grew up here and love it. If you stay out of the village the taxes are that bad. My BIL just bought out of the village and his taxes are about 6-7k and his property is HUGE. Ours our a little over 8k and we are in the village.

Re: western suffolk?

Agree with Lindenhurst. I grew up there, my dad is still there. Taxes for him are about 6 and he is in the village. I used to take the LIRR from there when I was at home and it was about 1hr10m I think on the express.

ETA also Hauppauge, taxes are pretty low, but I dont know much about with train line would be best, Kings Park, Smithtown, etc.
