Buying Furniture?

Which store has the best selection and quality for the best price? I realize I am going to have to spend a lot on furniture and I am ok with that so long as the quality is good and it will last a long time. I know Ethan Allen is good, but super expensive. What about Pottery Parn or Raymour and Flannigan? I really just don't want to buy anything that is cheap but of course don't want to break the bank!

We are looking specifically for living room (couches, tables etc).

Re: Buying Furniture?

I have been happy with Raymour & Flanagan in the past. Our bedroom set is from there, as well as our TV console/cabinet in our den. Years ago, when we were in a one-bedroom apartment, we bought living room furniture (a couch, a loveseat, and tables) from them, and they held up pretty well, considering we used them every day. They are now in our basement, so they are still getting use and are in decent shape!

In my current house, I got my formal living room furniture from Bassett (we went to the store in Farmingdale). I get a lot of compliments on my furniture -- they have a good selection of formal, as well as more casual, furniture. You can customize your fabrics, and they had a designer there that helped us lay out the furniture (she did a floor plan for us) in the room (as a complimentary service).

Also, you can get GREAT deals if you buy the floor sample, if it's for sale. It's often in great shape, but significantly marked down. I did for my formal dining room, and got a beautiful Broyhill set (table, chairs, china cabinet, and sideboard/buffet) for about a third of the cost.

If you're looking for baby furniture or even gliders that will match your living room furniture, I would highly recommend aBaby.com. It’s an online shop and there’s a good variety of furniture there. The prices are very reasonable, too. We recently ordered a micro suede recliner that fits perfectly with our living room furniture!
