Those of you who refinanced.....
Did you hire a lawyer to come with you to closing?
We got a great rate for a refinance with HSBC and we are moving forward. We had a lawyer at the first closing - not sure if we should have one again.
Looking for some advice.
TIA!

Re: Those of you who refinanced.....
No - you don't need one. The title company handles all of the paperwork for a refinance.
You get an attorney when you are doing a purchase mortgage because they prepare the contract, run title, etc. But you actually don't even NEED an attorney then; in most other states, realtors prepare the contracts and attorneys don't get involved. In NY, it's just customary to use an attorney to handle a closing for a real estate purchase. (But not for a refinance - you already own the property, you are just getting a new loan.)

No, we didn't have a traditional closing, they just sent us the closing paperwork at home, we got it notarized and sent it back.
