Adventures in Baby-Stealing

Ever feel entitled to take someone's baby?

I was taking a subway home from the Bronx yesterday. While I was sitting on the bench, these 2 junkies came and sat next to me with their infant in the stroller.

Their faces were a collection of open sores and they were doing the heroin nod the whole time we sat there--sleeping and muttering to each other and generally being slimy and disgusting.

Their little boy was the sweetest little thing with these big alert blue eyes and long eyelashes, maybe 8 months old. He was holding his little feet in the air, bouncing around in his footy pajamas trying to get there attention. He'd make flirty eyes at me and smile and get all excited when I'd smile back. Then he'd look over at them, coo, then whimper when they didn't response. When the train pulled up, part of me wanted to grab him and run.

So apparently you can do heroin and get pregnant.

I tell DH there should be a competency exam before couples can have kids. Life isnt fair. Prayers for that baby and hugs to you!

Ugh, sooo frustrating! I have worked with so many families and children where I have just wanted to take the children home with me. It just isn't fair...for us or those poor innocent babies!
