UPDATE: Think I have a squirrel in my house

Hi-

I think (hope its only) a squirrel in my house. I've done major construction to my home and all the walls are now sealed tight. I'm not sure if the squirrel was there prior but I can hear it scratching and thumping during the day and also in my son's room (the ceiling) during the evening. Its scratching and moving but its pretty annoying when it is happening. Right now I'm in the kitchen and the noise is there. The two rooms are not in the same location so it obviously knows how to navigate through the house.

I obviously do not want to cut any holes into the ceiling but I want the thing out of here. There are no holes in the roof for it to get in or out so I think I may have to damage my ceilings!

Any suggestions??

SO...after waiting all morning for the squirrel to leave I covered the hole that was made to the trimming of my house. I wake up yesterday morning and find the squirrel trying to make yet another hole to gain access! I cover that one and guess what happens this am...the squirrel is trying to eat away at the plywood I used (didn't use it the first time but after noticing the squirrel pull the steel wool I reinforced with plywood) to cover the initial hole!! At this point I decide to call Arrow extermination and they informed me that it will be $875 for them to put out traps!!! I'm looking for video cameras because this has to be a joke and I'm on TV or something. Mind you, I hate heights and had to get on the roof 4 times to make sure that the holes are covered properly.

I'm hoping this keeps them out but now I'm not even certain since they're adamant on getting in.

Im not sure of any other way to get it out aside from putting a hole somewhere (either a wall or ceiling) I would do something soon though before the poor guy dies. Chat Icon

I would call an exterminator. You dont want to mess with a squirrel. It could be a racoon too.

Thanks. I guess I will call an exterminator but I really hope he can put one of those small cameras in the ceiling before us having to make holes. Chat Icon

If I were you, I would definitely try to get an exterminator to get it out before it dies. An animal, probably a mouse, died in my bedroom wall when I was little and I still remember it being the worst smell ever. Chat Icon I had to sleep with my windows open in the dead of winter.

Call an exterminator. We had squirrels in the attic when we first moved into our house and they were able to get them out. They put traps in the area so they can catch the animals and then release them elsewhere. But do it soon because they can do some serious damage to the house if left alone!

Also once they are removed make sure the entry point from the outside it sealed properly and look for any other areas they may be able to get in. They only need a tiny little gap or hole to get in.

Re: Think I have a squirrel in my house

We had squirrels 2 years ago - it was so annoying!! The exterminator caught like 6 over the period of a week!

We used Steve's Wildlife Removal and haven't had any problems since.
