This may be a dumb question- LAME UDATE

But I honestly dont know what to do. Even if youre not in this situation (which I can likely bet on), id appreciate your thoughts

I'm currently taking daily injections of lovenox, and will have to do so for the next 6 weeks or so. Each injection causes a new rash by the injection site, so very soon I will run out of places to inject!

I am using prescription strength hydrocortisone a few times a day which eases the itch, but it's not clearing it up. This was approved by both the derm and my RE who said its perfectly safe.

My RE said I could switch to heparin but the catch is I'd have to do it twice a day. Im not so much worried about injecting twice a day, but I need DH to do it for me, and he leaves for work 2 hours before I wake up. Considering I'm drop dead tired lately, losing 2 hours of sleep is a big deal (and I can't fall back asleep after he gives me the shot).

My RE said its not a medical decision, it just depends on what I can tolerate.

I really can't decide which is the lesser of two evils, a nasty, spreading rash or losing precious sleep! Sorry, there may be a captain obvious answer, but I can't seem to find it. What do you think?

I chickened out. I had the needle positioned over my belly and I couldnt bring myself to jab. DH tried to guide my hand but I thought I would flinch and make it worse so I made him do it for me. I will try again tomorrow!

Why do you take the Lovenox/Heparin?You wont need it the whole pregnancy?? If so, that's awesome!!!!

Can you try to give yourself the shot? I wouldnt do it for MONTHS myself, but one dayDH and I were fighting and he was in the other room in a mood, so I just said "F this" and did it.

It wasn't that bad! Have your husband with you at first. If you can do that, then you can do it without himand wont lose sleep.

Since it's only 6 weeks, I say just suck it up for now.

The rash would really annoy me, so I'd probably switch and deal with the lose of sleep,OR try to do it on my own. I promise it's not too bad and I hate needles.

I would be way too uncomfortable liiving with an itchy rash 24/7. I know it might be easier for ME to say this, but I would learn to self inject. You CAN do it Cate! Just think, little kids with diabetes self inject all the time. You are a strong and confident woman, I know that you have it in you!

Crashing. I had a huge anxiety attack when my husband said he was getting out late, so I would have to give myself a shot. But once I did it, it was no biggie. Now, I feel like it actually hurts less when I do it, so sometimes I prefer to do it on my own. GL!!

Honestly I never used to do my own shots. I went through 6 IUI cycles and IVF and my DH did it all....... until I started Lovenox twice a day. Then there was just no choice because I had to do them 10-12hrs apart (and when I get pregnant again I'll be doing it my entire pregnancy)... so ....... I knew there was no way I could have my DH do it at such precise times the entire pregnancy.. etc.. PLUS, I like my sleep too

It's really not bad AT ALL doing it yourself, and truthfully... I prefer doing it myself. Lovenox BURNS (not sure about Heparin) and I'd rather be the one to control how fast it goes in.. etc......

I'd say at least TRY doing it yourself. You may find it's not that bad. These days I much prefer giving myself the injects.

Do you have to really wake up?

When I had to do PIO 2x/day, I just literally rolled over and DH did the shot and then I went back to sleep!

Ok ladies, this is why I love you all. Thanks for the pep talks. I will try to do my own inject tonight and see how it goes.

Just do your own shot, honestly. You will get used to it, its not so bad. I remember back a million years ago when I was first doing IUIs and had to do injections I would FREAK THE F OUT when I had to give myself the shot. I would literally dance around the kitchen yelling about it.

Now, its totally old hat. I have been doing this for literally YEARS. I did 11 injectible IUI cycles, 3 IVF cycles and was on Lovenox the entire time from 1 IVF cycle all the way through delivery with DS, and child was conceived naturally but have been on Lovenox since 4 weeks. It just gets to a point where you just do it, it becomes a part of life. You can do it, trust me! Just rip off the bandaid and hold your breath and go for it. It will be worth it for you to NOT have to wake up two hours early!!!
