What do I do about a very painful cavity?

I woke up today with horrible tooth pain on my back 2 teeth...last one on top and last one on bottom. Looks like they both have cavities (but today is the frist time I saw them). What can I do to help the pain? I feel like I have never taken better care of my teeth bc I knew I couldn't really go to the dentist. Is it possible I got them from my acid reflux (I have it really bad)? My friedn said it was OK to use Oragel..but I feel like taht's a temperary solution and that I cant' use it all day long. Can anyone help? Thanks!!!

You *can* go to the dentist during pregnancy and can get some dental work done.

Check with your OB. Depending on how far along you are (they don't like you to get dental work in the first trimester in some cases) you should be able to go.

I was about 18 weeks pregnant with my daughter when a piece of my wisdom tooth broke off. It had a large cavity and I ignored it, and then a piece broke off and the nerve was exposed. It was ridiculously painful. I asked my OB, he wrote me a note clearing me and I went and had the tooth pulled with local anestesia.

Give a call to your OB and they will recommend to you what to do next!

You SHOULD go to the dentist!! The dentist will do what's necessary and wont do what's not in pregnancy. Tylenol for the pain.
If it were me, I would be at the dentist tomorrow! lol

During pregnancy is when you SHOULD go to the dentist. Pregnancy wreaks havoc on your gums and teeth, so it's extra important to get a good cleaning at the dentist and to take care of any issues. You can really have most/any dental work done during pregnancy; fillings, root canals, xrays, extractions, etc. There are better/worse times during your pregnancy to have these things done so ask your dentist/OB when is a good time, but remember that if you wait and an infection develops it is far more dangerous to the fetus for a dental infection to spread than to have the dental work done to take care of it. (says the girl who had an extraction and two root canals during both of her pregnancies )

Def call the dentist. I had an issue with needing root canal a while ago. I had mentioned to the dentist about making sure it all gets done before I got pregnant and he said that it's actually fine to have dental work done when pregnant and his poor wife actually had to have 2 root canals when pregnant. Feel better!!!

Go to the dentist! I had to have a wisdom tooth pulled when I was in my second trimester - it's totally okay to have novocaine and X-rays, and that's all you'll need for a cavity. My OB wrote me a note to bring to the dentist stating what kind of novocaine and pain meds (Tylenol, lol) I could receive. Good luck and feel better!
