There Is That Autumn Snap In The Air!!!
And that means I want/need to bake and cook some fall foods!!
What are your favorite cool season items to make?
I'm actually changing my menu today so I can roast a chicken. I love roasts when it's chilly.. and the crisp, golden skin of a chicken seems perfect for this time of year. I figure I'll stuff it with herbs - some thyme and rosemary - and some citrus fruit to pay homage to the waning days of Summer. I want to pair it with either a nice rice pilaf (some flecks of bright orange carrots, dots of plump green peas and maybe a couple of golden currants to add surprise texture and sweetness). And some roasted brussel sprouts - seasoned simply with olive oil, kosher salt and course pepper and then carmelized in the oven.
And for dessert? I'm thinking apple crisp. I can serve it right from the oven.. I love when you pour heavy cream over it and it makes little rivers through the sugary crumb and pools onto the plate so you can swipe your apples through it.
Anyone else planning to take advantage of this fabulous weather today???

Re: There Is That Autumn Snap In The Air!!!
Not changing my menu for tonight (actually making last night's dinner tonight, long story), but I've been thinking about my menu for next week and I'm getting excited! I have been going through my recipe binder and picking out some good fall recipes to make in the coming weeks. So far for next week I've decided on lasagna with mini meatballs, chicken pot pie, crispy gnocchi with pesto (not really a fall recipe but "heavier" than usual) ...applesauce cake, pumpkin scones...
ETA - potato soup, I will make a big batch of beef bourguignon and freeze some, I also want to try those Skinnytaste pumpkin cupcakes

Re: There Is That Autumn Snap In The Air!!!
I am not sure what I am going to cook tonight- I have a massive migraine since 12:30 AM , took med's and it is half way gone-I am not really sure how i am at work right now. If I do cook, I am thinking beef pot pie w/ the left over stew I made in the crockpot at the begining of the week, or homemade pizza. I love the fall- such a refreshing change of seasons when there is a cold snap in the air!

Re: There Is That Autumn Snap In The Air!!!
But to answer your questions...I can't wait until we go apple picking and I can make my caramel apple porkchops, fresh apple pie etc
I really love classic Armenian meals, they are very autumn-y. There's Monti, which is like mini wontons in broth and served with yogurt. Then there's Kufta, made with bulgar wheat and stuffed with meat, onions, seasoning again served with yogurt, Cheese pie, Meat pie (we call them Bouregs) I can go on and on
BUT I also love soup. Like butternut squash soup and pumpkin soup, french onion with some really yummy crusty bread.
I love the fall

I have a delicious pumpkin soup recipe that I love to make.
You use coconut milk and curry.........I like using hot curry paste.
Mrs. R, I swear, you need to either start your own show on the food channel, or become a vendor on here and offer cooking classes for a fun girls nite out!

Re: There Is That Autumn Snap In The Air!!!
This post is getting me super excited for fall. Some faves would be pot roast with potatoes and carrots, beef stew with biscuits, roasted chicken with gravy and mashed potatoes...clearly my main requirement is anything served in gravy here! As for baking, pumpkin bread is always at the top of the list. I usually make 3 loaves at a time, I give away one and DH and I eat two ourselves!

Yes, LOVE your food descriptions I am making chicken pot pie and banana bread. One with chocolate chips, one without. Later this week I'll make my first pumpkin bread of the season! I do love this weather.
