Forest City - Wantagh
Anyone have any info on this area? My friend is looking to buy a home in the section of Wantagh. What's around, things to do, etc.

Re: Forest City - Wantagh
i grew up in Forest City. I loved it there! The schools are Levittown schools. Elementary is Lee Road which is a great small school. There is a nice park with a playground and public pool.
It is a pretty central location. Between Jerusalem Ave and N. Jerusalem and close to stores and things like that. FM if you ahve any questions!

I really like that area. I used to lifeguard at the pool in that area. Everyone who lived in the area was always so nice.

My BIL bought a ranch in this area, he is north of jerusalem avenue, levittown schools, seems like a nice neighborhood.

Re: Forest City - Wantagh
ok, i know the area, just more north than I was thinking of. i would think that since it is Levittown schools, it is one of the lesser desired areas in Wantagh. (dont hate me people, just speaking honestly). we looked at an area on the other side of wantagh ave and it was a beautiful area and in the Wantagh zip code but also Levittown schools.
The truth is, a house in Levittown schools will have a lower value than the same house in Wantagh schools regardless of zip code. Anything in that area is safe however, nice neighborhood.

yes it will have a lower value, but it will also cost less. and if she is looking in the area and can't afford something she loves in wantagh schools there is really nothing wrong with levittown schools. the schools over there are lee road, salk and macarthur....all good schools.

Re: Forest City - Wantagh
It's a great area. People rave about the Lee Road elementary school (it's small and people liken it to a private school). As others have said, it's Salk Middle School and MacArthur High School.
The neighborhood is very family friendly -- there's a playground and a pool. The neighborhood is laid out like two circles (one is north and one is south). You always see kids playing, people walking dogs, etc. People have a lot of pride of ownership in that area; the yards and homes are typically very well maintained.
There are a lot of ranches and capes in this area, but also some larger homes (new construction or remodeled homes).
It's a convenient location, near lots of major roads and parkways.
The only potential negative is that the taxes are high.
If your friend has questions or needs help, have her contact me. I work in the next town over and live very close to Forest City.

Re: Forest City - Wantagh
It’s a really nice area, we considered buying there. If you're looking at Wantagh in Levittown schools I would say it’s the best of the bunch, the park is right there, the houses have basements, tree lined streets, real nice feel to the area.
I would say the only "negative" is, it has Levittown schools compared Wantagh schools.
I've heard plenty of good things regarding the elementary school and that MacArthur is good.
I still chose Wantagh with Wantagh schools. I paid a premium, when/if I ever sell, I'll most likely get the premium back.
for what it’s worth, Levittown SD taxes are high, Wantagh taxes aren't that much better.
If you look in Wantagh, I highly recommend the Forest Lake section of Wantagh which is just south of there but west of Wantagh ave. It has a really nice family friendly feel to it, and a little cheaper than Wantagh woods.
you have to weigh your options and make your choices....

I think other neighborhoods with a Wantagh address and Levittown schools (such as the T section or D section or W section) have lower taxes than Forest City... that's what I was getting at with the high taxes comment. Because those other sections are mostly Levitt homes with no basements. But Wantagh/Wantagh SD taxes are definitely as high if not higher than Forest City.
I agree Forest Lake is a great area of Wantagh. So is Holiday Park (just east of Forest Lake). For someone who wants a split, Holiday Park is the place to be!
For the poster who asked about the T section, it's basically north of Jerusalem, south of Southern State, east of Wantagh Avenue, west of Seaman's Neck Rd. All the street names begin with T (e.g., Twin Lane N., Twin Lane S., Toll, Tally, etc.). For the most part, there are Levitt style homes there (some with very large property, though), but on Tally, which runs just south of Southern State, there are split level homes.
On the west side of Wantagh Ave, you have the "D" and "W" sections (also Levitt homes).
The "T" section goes to Levittown schools (East Broadway elementary, Salk and MacArthur).
