Ugh, we just tried the Allimentum and....

she hardly kept any of it down. It seems like she spit-up the whole bottle. Plus, she's sneezed about 20-25 times in the hour since we've given it to her Chat Icon

not for nothing but did you try enfamil gentleese? Bella couldn't take the nutragamin and my friend had luck with the gentaleese (her baby had major issues) and we tried it and it worked great! It's 1/2 the price and has worked wonders for bella. I have coupons if you want.

Or, tomorrow when we meet for our walk I'll give you some to try.

Let me know!

It took me 7 months to try Gentlease and it was the one formula that actuallly worked.

Miranda and Ava sound so much alike. My heart breaks for you because I remember how hard it was. Chat Icon All I can tell you is that somehow they do grow out of it.

Andrew has AR and stomach issues. My ped put him on Gentlease before trying any other formula. It has been a lifesaver for us.

Maybe you should try that?

Re: Ugh, we just tried the Allimentum and....

When I first made the switch to alimentum - Kevin's reflux got worse the first week or so - it takes a full week to really know the effect of the change. The Alimentum is lighter than other formulas so it takes some getting use to on their part (not sure if you were using others first - haven't been online much these days). I know Kevin spit up so much more at first. Dr warned me this may happen. After a few days it got lighter and eventually Alimentum and it's hefty price tag was much better for my son who I eventually learned is lactose intolerant!! Didn't cure colic an donly lessened reflux (not much change) but it helped with digestive issues he had right away - I noticed that difference in a day!

We switched to the Gentle Ease when Emily was having problems with formula too and it helped SOO much.

Eventually we did the Carnation Good Start because it also had the partially digested milk protiens yet had better coupons.

I supplement with Enfamil GentleEase. Grace had reflux from the regular formula and we switched. She has not had any issues with GentleEase.

Re: Ugh, we just tried the Allimentum and....

The problem isn't so much her reflux, it's the fact that we think she has an allergy to milk or at least milk proteins. I also think she's allergic to soy, to be honest. She was exclusively on breast milk before we tried the Allimentum, other than a day of adding one ounce of regular formula to three ounces BM. So the consistency wasn't a problem since the Allimentum is close to BM. I just can't imagine that a baby screaming her head off after a feeding, vomitting horribly and sneezing for an hour can really be just the adjusting to the formula. I mean, maybe it is, and maybe we need to wait it out, but I'm pretty sure this isn't normal.
I just hate it because the whole reason for switching to formula is because I constantly feel guilty for her stomache problems, thinking I ate the wrong thing and it upset her, and now, this is worse. I feel even MORE horrible that I gave her the formula. Plus, I really need her to start formula so i can get myself on meds for this horrible PPD I haveChat Icon I'm so worn out.Chat Icon I'm sorry to complain even more, I know there are some babies that have it even worse.

What about just trying Neocate? At least it doesn't stink to high heaven like the Alimentum. Miranda did better on that than the Alimentum and I didn't feel like I was going to vomit making those bottles.

Rachel - are you seeing a GI Dr? I think your best bet is to see a specialist regarding these issues.

Also - 50% od babies that have a milk protein allergy have a soy allergy, so switching to soy is not always a help.

You need to give the formula a few days to see if it is working. Good Luck!!!!!

your are allowed to complain/vent/talk here. It is tough to deal with and very confusing. What did you dr say are signs of milk allergy vs digestive/new formula change?

Hang in there and I hope you find relief soon.

This is what I JUST called about this morning. I am waiting to hear back from him. I have no idea what is considered "normal" for switching a baby to formula and what is considered a formula not agreeing with her.
The good thing, though, was that after we gave her the Allimentum and she had that reaction, she really wasn't any worse for the ware overnight, whereas with all the other formulas we tried, she was a horrible mess for at least a full day afterwards. So I'm wondering if maybe she'll just spit it up until she gets used to it, or if I should introduce it slowly, like one ounce of the formula in one bottle, then three ounces of the other formula in another bottle at each feeding. I just don't know what the right thing to do is, and it's not like my ped. can just tell me a magic answer because all babies are different.Chat Icon

Try Nutramigen - DD has a milk allergy - Couldn't take Soy either. It took us 3 months to find the right formula - and like you, I felt guilty and horrible everytime she ate because her stomach would be so bad.

Chat Icon 's - It'll get better - it's all trial and error...

DD's signs of a milk allergy was mucous and blood in her stool.
Also - she would scream every time we fed her.
