Maternity leave question
When do you plan on your last day of work being? My EDD is Nov 5 so I was going to work up until a week before but now I am second guessing myself. I am thinking I may want to go out a week and half before my EDD or possibly 2 weeks. The only thing that worries me is that I dont know when I will actually give birth and I dont want to waste too much time being home before I deliver. I just figured I would need the time to do last minute things and just relax without having to worry about work.
What do you girls think?

Not sure if you commute by train, car, bus, etc..to work and how far your job is, but that can determine your decision. Don't forget this is the last time you will have time to do things before your baby arrives.

I'm trying to figure that out now. I keep saying I'm going to work as long as I can and would love to work until my due date, figuring I don't go into labor before that. Otherwise I'm kind of thinking I'll play it by ear and maybe take off starting the week or at least 3-4 days before my due date to relax and get last minute things done.

I actually drive to work everyday...about a 30min drive.

I commute over 1.5 hrs each way to the city and my Dr. recommends that I finish 2 weeks before but he is going to sign me out on disability. I am due 11/1 and will finish up on 10/14 (my wedding anniversary  ).

I have a 15min drive to work. I plan on being here until the very last possible minute. My job is 10 min away from my hospital in case of dire emergency. I will start bringing all my stuff home and being "ready to go" about 3 weeks before my EDD.

I drive to work about 45 mins there and an hour home. I plan to work right up until I go into labor. I'd rather have the time off after then before.
I also hate sitting around. 2 days of that and I will be going stir crazy.

I will only go out early if my Dr signs me out so it will not count against my leave it will be disability.
I commute about 1.5 hrs into the city so it is likely that he will take me out but my boss is flexible also and I might be able to do soem work from home days.

same thing with me, I only get 6 or 8 weeks leave unpaid, so I would rather spend more time with the baby

yea I agree that I want to have the most time with the baby that I can. I get 19 weeks maternity leave so I think even if I go out early I will still have a nice amount of time home with the baby. It is just so hard to decide what the right thing to do is. My hospital is about 1 hour or so from my job so that worries me a little bit too.

my due date is 10/18. my dr. won't let me go more than 1-2 days after my due date bc of GD. 10/6 will be my last day of work, then i'm taking 5 vacation days, then my maternity leave will begin on 10/17.

I was also planning on working up until i felt uncomfortable with it - but I also commute about an hour each way into the city and when my Dr asked me if i was comfortable being at work and going into labor, and then having to take the subway/LIRR home to get to the hospital.. i immediately knew i wouldn't be.
As soon as she said that, i figured that i'd leave work 2 weeks before my due date (luckily i've saved up vacation time and can do this) and my maternity leave will start on my scheduled due date - regardless of when i actually deliver
So Monday will be my last day at work, and let me tell you that im so ready for it! the commute lately has been killing me..
Since we can't predict when we're actually going to give birth, i figure at the worst i'll have some extra me time to relax before  shows up!

Same here. I worked until the day my water broke (as I was getting ready for work) and plan to do the same with the baby.

Today was my last day.I am 39weeks and 1 day.
I say work until you feel you need to stop. Play it by ear if you can and see how you feel at the end.

I ask myself that question Every.Single.Day.
I have no idea. I have no idea how much longer I'll be able to even function at work (I work in construction so it is very labor intensive). I don't even know if the decision will be mine, the babies, or my employers (the job is ending so I may get laid off). I don't know what to expect so I can't make a decision.
