The recent posters who went to Ireland...?
I recall a couple who were going to Ireland recently.
How was it? What'd you think? Any pics to share?

Re: The recent posters who went to Ireland...?
My DH and I went Nov of last year and it was GREAT!
We did an escorted tour with CIE tours and would highly recommoned them. We took a ton of pics, but I don't have any on this computer.
If you have any questions let me know.

We went to Ireland for 2 weeks and it was AMAZING! We had a blast. Anything in particular you want to know? My husband drove (which was not easy) and we were all over!! It was a trip of a lifetime!
eta: we just got back 2 weeks ago

I've been and loved it and was just wondering how the others made out and if they had any pics. I could have moved there and never looked back!

Which part??
6 nights; self drive vacation flying into dublin 1st night in Kilkenny 2nd and 3rd nights in Killarney 4th and 5th nights in Galway 6th night in Dublin
I'm trying to plan it out so we can pack as much in as we're able. Definitely doing to the Guiness factory and Jameson distillery in Dublin, already have tix to Waterford crystal factory and Cliffs of Moher. I figured we'd drive the ring of Kerry and at least check out Limerick on our way to Galway.
Any tips on other places to go, I'm all ears

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude! Listen. SKIP Jameson's. It's SO freaking lame. Seriously. You'll regret spending time there. And this is coming from a die hard Jameson's drinker.
Waterford factory is now closed.
Cliffs of Moher are a definite.
Def do ring of kerry.
ANd on your way west, stop in local pubs. THATS the real Ireland!

Ditto to all of this.
Dublin is MAGICAL...Guinness Factory was cool but I could have skipped it - I loved the end where you all toast and get a free Guinness and you're up high and overlooking Dublin. That's kinda cool.
and Killarney and the ring of kerry is amazing..
you're going to have a blast!

RE: waterford crystal factory:
The large one did close several years ago. But they know have a smaller factory that is opened to the public and a small store to buy things. It was really interesting to see how the different things are made. I would recommoned going there.

We also enjoyed having dinner at bunratty castle. It was a great way to kick off our trip. They have live music and interaction with the group. It was a lot of fun.

I think Jamesons is a far better tour than Guinnesses. The Guinness factory used to be great years ago (more than 10) but now it's just a tourist trap and that bar at the top is I loved the Jameson tour. Much more traditional and this is from someone who lived in Ireland most of their life and doesn't drink whisky.
Kilkenny is one of my favorite cities. Definitely try to check out the castle and maybe some of the areas around the city - Mount Juliette is a gorgeous old mansion where the Irish Open has been held and there is a trout farm and equestrian center.
If you do pass by Bunratty Castle there is a bar next door called Durty Nelly's. It's touristy but there is music every night. Once the Summer is over it is more difficult to find bars that have live music but you should find some in most of the big towns in Clare - Lahinch and Miltown Malbay are very musical towns - and in Galway too.
Dublin is more metropolitan but we had a great night last year staying in Temple Bar. We stayed at The Clarence Hotel and did a pub crawl. We ate at Gallagher's Boxty House and my DH is still talking about the potato pancakes he had. There is a really great spot in the Dublin mountains in Glencullen called Johnnie Foxes. It's (apparently) the highest pub in Ireland. They have shows every night *I think* and great seafood but the road up there is very narrow and twisty so you may want to take a cab.
I realize that these recommendations are mostly for bars, but there is so much more to see and do.
Oh, and the weather this Summer has been TERRIBLE! The worst on record according to my parents. Definitley take a raincoat and sweats/tees that you can layer.

Re: The recent posters who went to Ireland...?
We were just recently in Ireland but more the country rather than the touristy parts. We stayed with family in Limerick and Mayo. The one thing we did that I loved was climbed Croagh Patrick. It was really difficult but what an amazing feeling when you know you've done it. It's supposed to be a religious experience as this is where St. Patrick supposedly fasted for 40 days or something like that. There is a church on top of the mountain. It's a 3.5 mile hike each way and the last 1/2 mile is BRUTAL. But it was so worth it to do.

We also climbed Loch Gur, which we had done before Croagh Patrick. Croagh Patrick made it look like a speed bump. But it was still beautiful.

We also visited the town of Knock which is where my ILs got married. It's a small and very religious town.

We also visited the Cliffs of Moher which are beautiful. It is definitely worth the trip, but the museum there stinks.

And lastly, we visited Bunratty Castle. We didn't get to do much there though since we got there a little late after spending all day at Cliffs of Moher. Expect to be at Bunratty all day. We also had a drink at Durty Nelly's but wound up not having dinner there.

Re: The recent posters who went to Ireland...?
THESE ARE AWESOME!!! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!
@Bonnie- I kind of HAVE TO do the whole Jameson distillery thing because I heard its the only way to get access to a specialty Jameson that's only made there. I need to bring it back for my FIL. And get him some pics of the inside. Jameson is like water to my in-laws.
