So we bought our house last April....(long)

It did great during inspection. Just needed a few little things fixed, nothing major. Homeowners fixed it all. We bought our house from a self proclaimed "handyman".

Since then, we replaced thenhotwater heater, because the new one they put in was to small, would have to wait 1-2 hours between showers to get hot water. We replaced other little things. During inspection, the roof was new, huge selling point not having to replace NEW roof.

FF to last month, dh gets a leak in his office window. Have FIL come over to check it out ( he is a contractor). Says the vent for the attic fan is not sealed right. They seal it. Roof still leaks. Get FIL friend the roof guy, to come and check it this morning.

The WHOLE roof is shiit. This "handyman" put a brand new roof, over a shiity one. Under the new spiffy roof is rotted roof and plywood. So, the whole damn thing needs to come up. We are in a california ranch, and the pitch is low, that needs to be fixed and replace with a roll roof. So now, before my coffee im quoted $5500 to start, and could go up to $8000. I am livid.

And the kicker, I see the old owners all the time, because his mother lives across the street. Its going to take all i have in me, not to kick him in the shins when I see him. Dumbasss.

That's awful! We had a condo before our house, and the same thing--a handyman owner did everything WRONG! Tons of fire hazards, did electric work himself incorrectly...I'm now so afraid of stuff like this.

Oh you should see the "finished basement" he rented out to his nephew. The munchkins in munchkin land would have a hard time getting through these doorways. My FIL laughed when he saw it. Its so attractive

Out handyman previous homeowner installed a brand new dishwaher in his brand new kitchen, but screwed up a valve somewhere, so the dishwasher was continuously leaking under the brand new hardwood kitchen floor. Of course nobody noticed until about 3 weeks after we moved in and the floor in the kitchen buckled, and it started leaking through the subfloor into the basement!We now need to replace the brand new kitchen floor!

The kicker is that @ closing, the wife starts telling me how to care for the floor & what not to use bc she works for a floor co and knows what she's talking about! Dumbazz!

We also have a mystery leak everytime it rains...our roof is also new...you just terrified me...lol, though I dont think he did the rook himself!

Our dishwasher is (I swear to you) sitting on the floor, with a piece of plywood with wall paper on it, with ONE screw holding it into the plywood. It has a cabinet on the side, which btw isnt attached to anything. I can NOT wait until we redo the kitchen.

I prefer a "not fixed" house honestly. At least $hit is not covered up to make a quick sale.

We saw a house once that the guy pride himself of redoing it all himself. OMG the basement! He had covered up windows with double walls (calling that 1 foot of space between the basement wall and his "new wall".. "nice closet space"). So not to code. We walked out of there rolling our eyes.

We saw so many bad homeowner/handyman renovations when we were looking for houses. DH finally would start saying "who gave this guy a hammer?"

My favorite find in our current house was the microwave power source. It looks like a typical plug plate in the wall at the back of the microwave shelf. But when you go downstairs it becomes clear that they drilled a hole in the wall, cabinet and floor and threaded a heavy-duty orange electrical cord through the openings so they could plug in into a basement outlet!
