Registry Help!

I am going to register today (25 wks) and I have no idea what to put on a registry. It has been years since I even went to a baby shower. I know I can put baby essentials on there but what about books, clothes, etc do they go on there too? Sorry for the dumb question but I just am overwhelmed and have no clue, thanks....

If you are going to the store to register they will give you a little starter kit with a pretty thorough list what you need to register for. They told us to focus on the bigger items (stroller, car seat, etc) and add to it a little at a time so you're not overwhelmed. The websites will give you a list of "registry must-have's" too.

So far everyone has told me NOT to put clothes on the registry. You are going to get tons of cute outfits whether you register for them or not.

ETA - I would give you a list of what's on my registry, but I've barely even started it yet. Get the Baby Bargains book if you haven't already. It gives a very honest analysis of baby products on the market and what you'll REALLY need.

Sure. I have clothing and books on my registry, including books on baby care for myself.. I also have bedding (sheets, crib savers etc), feeding stuff (bottles, pump accessories etc), activity things, like bouncers and swings, then strollers, high chair, car seats. I have bath stuff on there too, bath tubs, towels etc.

Anything you want you can put on there!

First of all, I wouldn't expect to complete the registry in one day. Just giving you a heads up, but I worked on mine for weeks, lol. I would say about 4 trips to the store, and then many changes made online. So nothing that you do today is set in stone. You can always go back and make changes, add/delete things.

Like someone else said, today I would focus on the big items, like strollers, infant seats, bedding, etc.

As for clothing, I did register for clothes but it was things like onesies, side-snap tshirts (which are great for when they come home and still have their cord), socks, etc. I guess I was particular about stuff like that and wanted certain brands. I do think Carter's is the best for onesies so that is what I registered for.

They will give you a list and also, at least at Buy Buy Baby, you can make an appt with someone who will go through with you through each section and help you out with the products and what you need etc. It was really great. In the alternative see if you can take someone who is a BTDT mom.

I agree with the PP dont overdue clothing bc people will get you clothes anyway regardless if its on your registry. I registered for a few essential items bc, again at least with BBB, you can always return stuff/exchange, so If I get too much of the same size or whatever, I can always exchange for something else.

Also, I know that at TRU they allow you to purchase items from your registry that you didn't get at your baby shower with a discount. I don't remember what the discount is --- maybe 10-20%? But the good thing about over-registering is that if there is anything that people don't buy you, you can buy them for yourself and recieve that discount.

So don't hesitate to put something on there that you really love!

i was also really, really overwhelmed and found the lists from the stores too comprehensive. i bought the baby bargains book and it was a lifesaver in telling me what i really need and what isn't completely essential (we live in a 1br apartment in manhattan so we're limited on space!). there is a sample registry in the back of the book that was also super helpful.
