1st birthday help please....
OK, so DH finally just went ahead and booked Filomena's for Bella's 1st birthday after my 2nd nervous breakdown of the week last night--yes it was only Tuesday....
Now I need to plan, plan, plan...and quick. We have stripped the guest list to just immediate family and that lands us with 30 people and 7 kids
I am thinking princess theme, but not too cheesy, where can I find fun decorations (maybe not even princess themed)
Also, what should I do for cake, favors???
And since there are 7 kids and 5 of them are around 3-ish, what should I do for entertainment???
Please help stave off nervous breakdown #3

Re: 1st birthday help please....
Since you are doing a princess theme it would be fun to get a Zoe character since she's the "girlly" sesame street character...
Or maybe face painting?

Kelly, go to Cedarhurst Paper in Oceanside. They have tons of themes there. As for the other kids, you could make goodie bags and buy some coloring books & crayons.

Re: 1st birthday help please....
BRU has cute princess things for the b-day girl. Party City is a great place to find princess themes, and accessories.
Party favors - I like stickers, tattos, pencils, fun erasers, note pads, washable markers, colorforms...
Will the restaurant make a cake for you? Sometimes they do - Maybe you can ask about it?

If you are doing crayons/markers for favors go to Target. They have the 24 pack of crayola crayons for $.20. I bought 25 packs for DD's b-day party favors for her party next March!

Re: 1st birthday help please....
You want princess but not Disney princess, right?
For 30 adults and 7 kids you can do a castle cake. I have made one myself before..not very difficult. Molly does not like big characters so I avoid hiring them. A face painter or magic show is really cute- but do you want that expense? If not, just get some craft stuff and the kids will be fine. Princess craft area: You can have the girls make Beaded Tiaras, or even bead necklaces with this excellent Necklace-Making Activity. For the sake of simplicity, you can also have them create tasty edible necklaces out of licorice string, fruit loops, cheerios, and gummy lifesavers.
Not sure if you have boys coming..but they can make a crown. That would be really fun.
*Castle Picture Frames: Take popsicle sticks and glue to cardboard with a few rhinestones, glitter, sequins etc, and insert a picture of each child in their costume (using a Polaroid or digital camera). This is a great favor to take home.
*Little Castles: You can have the kids make their own little castles. Take baby food jars clean them well and remove the label. You can give the kids colored papers to glue and decorate the outside of the jar. They can paint the lid with silver acrylic paint and glitter and glue on the top a silver Hershey's Kisses with their 'flags' waving-this then looks like a little castle. They can add more Hershey's kisses in the jar and take it home as part of their princess birthday party favors.
You can do a fun kids party game- like pin the crown on the princess or a pinata (but do goodie baggies with names on them, not free flowing candy since it can be very hard for the little ones to get anything with the bigger kids and not all of the moms want the younger kids having candy). I got Molly a personalized dress for her 1st birthday and it was perfect. I got it from a women on eBay. Here is the sample
I would do cute castle type invites. You can have print these yourself Invites Princess Birthday Party Ideas

Definitely check out birthdayexpress.com
They have every theme imaginable in case you find something you like better than the princess theme and every possible matching accessory including favor boxes, piñatas, banners, etc. It's really one stop shopping and fast delivery. Good luck!!

Re: 1st birthday help please....
You can find birthday princess theme online there are tons. Maybe you can have some stuff customized as well.
Not sure how much you want to spend but my friend had a "princess" show up and make the animal balloons, face painting etc.
She gave out tiaras to the girls and inflatable swords to the boys and she put little princess hats on each table as a centerpiece. Hope that helps.

Re: 1st birthday help please....
If it were me, I probably wouldn't waste the money getting a character for 7 kids. I would opt for craft sets for entertainment. My friend did the same for her son's christening. The girls were busy making necklaces & boys were busy making masks.
eta. I think princess theme will work for both sexes (particularly if you handle out inflatable swords). Just be ready for your "knights" to start bopping each other.

I'd say Party City or Oriental Trading for decorations (watch OTs shipping fees..they're kind of high IMO) and you might want to check out Dollar Tree because they have tons of stuff too.

Re: 1st birthday help please....
check out www.startrackinc.com it is just like oriental trading. They are located in farmingdale off 110. (my new find)
I was there last week and they have loads of stuff to choose from.. (wholesale prices)
I am using a person who personalizes stuff from her home in Melville for favors.. She is very reasonable.
For 7 kids, I don't think it is worth it to hire someone but the person I am using is inexpensive and she is a music only person. Depending on what ages you are having at your party... Right now I have 21 under 2 coming and 5 over 3...
I second-party city and birthday express. I just got Birthday Express catologue and they have everything under the sun.. If I had a girl they have this one theme- pink poodle which is the cutest thing ever....
cakewise--- I am getting one from waldbaums, they do cute character cakes and I am probably getting sesame street, if not costco cake it will be...

Re: 1st birthday help please....
i went to a girlie birthday party once ( i have all boys ) and they did lots of crafts and the kids had a great time. I had the magic guy from nickolodeon (magicguy.com i think) at one of my son's party and he was great too. I don't know if it's worth it for 3 year olds though. I think they'd by happy with the crafts!

Re: 1st birthday help please....
go to birthdaydirect.com They have a ton of decorations and I think they are a bit cheaper than birthdayexpress.com.
I am in the same boat as you...no idea for favors (the kids coming to our party range from 1 year to 15). Since I am having the party in a back yard I am getting a bouncy and that will entertain most of kids.

You can try any of the character places. I think she used Kuddles the Clown (but they have other characters too). Its completly up to you.
If this helps I had Elmo come to my daughter's 1st birthday and yay she was young but I have a picture of her face with her mouth open LOL. That pic to me is priceless and worth the $ But that is completely up to you =-)
