IF and Frozen Sperm
We had our first meeting with the RE today and now I feel more confused than I initially was. Several years ago, DH had cancer and luckily banked his sperm. We have 19 vials, which is apparently a lot. Since we have the vials, the RE said we have three courses of action:
1. Clomid IUI 2. Injectables IUI 3. IVF
I was all set to do IVF since I did not think IUI would even be an option for us. The RE really left it up to us to decide on what we would like to do, but he seemed to be persuading us to try a few IUIs first.
At this point, I am unsure about what to do. We are working with a finite resource (RE's words) and I am not sure the IUI is worth it.
I would gladly appreciate people's thoughts - especially if you have used frozen sperm.
Thank you!

Re: IF and Frozen Sperm
I don't have experience with this, but did they say how many vials would be used for an IUI and IVF? Exactly how long will those vials last you .. Is it possible to last 19 cycles? I hope this isn't a stupid question!!

Re: IF and Frozen Sperm
He said it would be 1-2 vials per IUI - depending upon quality.

Hmm I really don't know.... I mean I'm inclined to say do IVF so you have the best chance possible..... but then again I really don't know. IVF is a big deal and NOT fun.., but the odds really are pretty good over IUI.
ETA: However, IVF is totally manageable .. sorry, I don't want to scare you!!

Re: IF and Frozen Sperm
From someone using frozen sperm... When you defrost, especially if DH was sick when he gave his sample, it might not be the best specimen. I would go right for IVF, to ensure that you maximize your chances of getting the biological family you want.

Re: IF and Frozen Sperm
I would go right to IVF as well.
I just had my 3rd unsuccessful IUI. If I was in your situation, and they had to use 2 vials each time, I'd only have 13 left and still no baby, KWIM?
It's definitely worth using as few as possible, esp if you want more than one DC.

Re: IF and Frozen Sperm
Thanks Ladies!
I had my mind set on IVF when we first went in, but then the RE gave us all these other pathways. When I contact them next week, I am definitely going to express that we would like to do IVF.
