Getting to the airport
so..my flight is at 5:45am at LGA to Jamaica through Houston.
If I get to the airport at 4:45am you think I'm ok? Should I leave earlier?

absolutely not. i'd get there 2-3 hours before the flight. having just flown last week, jfk was completly mobbed at 4am

was that because of the hurricane perhaps.
Well either way I booked the car for 3:45am..get there by 4:05 for a 5:45 flight. There should be no traffic.

No, that was a week before the hurricane. The line for security took 1.5 hours.

I agree, 2 hours ahead. Esp for an international flight, security can take awhile. LGA is slower than JFK as well. We got to the airport I think 90 min ahead for our flight to St. Lucia, and though we had already checked in online between the long lines and the long walk to our gate we JUST made it in time for boarding. Plus you never know what traffic is like. I live 5 minutes from Kennedy and we missed a flight once getting stuck in 45 minutes of traffic in the circles at the airport.

We're back. The car got us at 3:45 and we got there around 4:15. Plenty of time. We had no issues. We connected in Houston.
It was a long day getting to resort around 5:30pm. The ride to the hotel was about 90 mins since it was all rural roads.
Had a great time though. We flew back on US air and we upgraded to first for $100. That was a deal.
I'm liking US Air.
