My beautiful Aruba vacation gone IRENE.

Well first just wanted to give my review of the Hyatt in Aruba........

We've been to Aruba before, first time stayed at the Wyndam and second time we stayed in a timeshare. Neither place could compare to the grounds and the rooms at the Hyatt.

Everything at the Hyatt was top notch and you definitely pay for it. The drinks by the pool were very pricey as well as the breakfast and lunch. You could do the $22 per person breakfast buffet or ala carte which comes out to about the same price anyway. I believer they also offer packages with breakfast and kids eating free.

Although there were many couples and honeymooners at the Hyatt, it was very kid friendly. There were tons of families and kids too. I def would not recommend staying here on any type of budget!

The gym was nice and clean, had the basics and all the cardio equipment had tvs which is a bonus!

I was not impressed with the spa. The massages were good but the "spa experience" definitely does not compare to other places.

The location of the Hyatt is great since you can walk to many of the great restaurants as well as a little convenient shop. (Waters in the hotel are around 6 or 7 dollars, sunscreen $15 etc) so it pays to pick up the basics elsewhere. The cab ride to the airport is thirty dollars each way.


On to the not so great part of the trip............found out our flight was cancelled the day we left, so I along with about 50 other new yorkers got on the phone frantically, which you had to do from the lobby or you would be charged.This caused quite a bit of chaos but the concierge and the front desk were pretty helpful.

They gave a "distressed rate" for stranded guests of $300 a night plus tax . We took this because the word was everywhere was sold out. (come to find out the holiday inn wasn't for 150 a night.)

After being jerked around by delta and getting sent to the airport three times with no flights, and four extra days we were told that we would be stuck in Aruba until September 8th.

I was at a loss and couldn't handle the stress of being stuck there nevermind "enjoy myself" like everyone said I should. I wasn't "lucky" to be stuck in Aruba.

Finally I exhausted my last option............ we flew from Aruba to COLOMBIA.......from Colombia to PANAMA (the country ) slept over night in the hotel. Then we flew to Atlanta and drove fourteen hours home.
Two days later I finally arrived in NY.......

Overall it was a beautiful trip, however I won't be leaving the country for A LONG TIME!!!!

Wow - I was mad I was going to be stranded until 8/31 in Nashville but, 9/8!!!

I loved the Hyatt too and I totally agree with you about the spa. The hotel was so beautiful and I went to the spa at the Hyatt in Kauai and it was so pretty, I thought the one in Aruba would be as well and it was quite disappointing.

OMG so sorry to hear what you went through!!

Did you have trip insurance? Hopefully you can file a claim to get back the money for the extra nights hotel & the flight costs!!

OMG....how stressful!! We were in Aruba around the same time as you, but we were lucky to be flying home on Friday, 8/26, and made it home without a problem. This is the first time that we ever traveled from Friday - Friday. We usually do Saturday to Saturday. Sorry you had to deal with all of that. I totally understand why you were stressed out. The idea of potentially getting stuck made me crazy!
