NEED URGENT FLOORING HELP STAT!!
Ok, long story short, we had water damage and now need to replace our flooring.
We want to do wood laminate in our living room/dining room/hallway. Will also need new moldings in the dining room as they were damaged.
I had Empire come to my house, and honestly, they were a bit shady (dropped 2K like that).
I called the below and it seems for the 400 sq feet need, it will be around 3K
Carpet Your World-Centereach ($2k but doesn't include a lot...tons of extras)
Flooring Your World-Medford ($3200)
Main St. Carpet-Sayville ($3K)
I also called Lumber Liquidators & Lowes and BOTH use outside contractors, so with delivery fees, etc, its not too cheap either
I amazed that NONE of these places include removal of current carpet.
I'm in a tiny condo and don't have room to remove everything.
I also know how cheap the wood laminate is in the stores and I WISH my DH had the time or knowledge to do this himself, but he doesn't. Right now, my dining room is bare (ie just cement) so I need somebody early next week.
Any recommendations???? Please help me!!

No experience, but a little advice:
Empire has some SCARY reviews, both here and elsewhere on the Internet. Stay far away!
Removing carpets is not something you can do yourself, even if you had the room - they need to be pulled and then cut into carry-able size pieces and you don't have the tools for that.
Ugh - I'm sorry you're going through this!

I posted earlier that I used Pepe's flooring for my hardwood floors. We already had the floors but needed them to be finished he was significantly cheaper than any other company and was so incredible to work with.

I agree, you can buy the carpet blade at any carpet store or maybe even Lowes or Home Depot. Slice it down every three feet, roll it up and dispose.
I got some sweet 12mm laminate flooring from Lumber Liquidators. You can probably pay a handyman $1 a square foot for install and you shouldn't pay more than that ($3 a square foot installed tops).
Don't bother with Empire. Waste of $$$$$

He does both! I think he is based on long island. He will travel to you. Call him! worth a shot!

HOW WEIRD!!!!!!!
I just posted about Empire and got a call today that they are in the area and if I wanted any more flooring or window treatments done. I told them my experience and how it was so bad I informed my friends not to use them either.
Instead of them trying to fix it, the guy just said "ok then I will take you off our calling list since you don't need us again in the future"  
That's some bad follow-up customer service if you ask me!

I am a bit confused about what type of floor you want. You said wood laminate. Solid wood can be pricey, laminate is very affordable.
Check out Long Island Paneling, they have a great selection in a huge price range. They are right on Middle Country Rd in Centereach. They can even refer you to a contractor.
Installation can range from 2.50-3.50 a SF, I would suggest tearing out the carpet yourself, it is easy enough with a sharp utility knife. But most contractors will do it for about 1-1.50 a sf.
As for you and your husband being handy, laminate installation is really easy and with a little patience, anyoine can do it, you just need to get the first few rows in.

We bought our engineered wood floors at LI panel in Lindenhurst. LOVE THEM!!!!! The nicest guys ever and got an amazing price. We installed outselves but they would give installer recs too. They have everything...Hard wood, enginnered, and laminate
