Ok, I need advice!
For the last week or so Alex's sleeping has been totally off. At first I thought it was the ear infection, but I'm starting to realize she has entered a new phase that I hope she'll pass through QUICKLY. Every night she has been waking up on the button every two hours. She starts WAILING. I come into her room and without fail, she's sitting straight up with the paci in her mouth, crying her little head off. I lay her back down, walk out of the room and she usually goes back to sleep within about 5 minutes. I'm starting to think she just doesn't know how to lay herself back down so she's crying for one of us to help her out.
So what do I do? Keep going in and laying her down with the hope that this is just a phase and eventually she'll learn. Ignore her so that she's forced to figure out how to put herself back down? Or, tie her down in her crib so she won't roll over and push herself up every 2 hours? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Ok, I need advice!
We've been going through something similar -- it must be the age since they are close in age! Emily for about 2 weeks wakes up in the middle of the night hysterical...usually somewhere between 1-4am, and it took us like an hour and a half to try and calm her down a few times. Finally after the 3rd night of it happening we brought her in the bed with us and let her sleep in there for the first time in her life EVER! We always swore we would never do that but she was hysterical whenever we tried to leave her room.
However it's the summer and I'm off of work so I was thinking a lot of it was that her schedule was all off. The babysitter kept things the same each day all school year --- and we've been running all over going to tons of places and her bedtime routine was even all off. So for the past few nights we've tried to play eveyrthing low key --- and even though we've gone out during the day we try to be back home for her two nap times --- not leaving till about noon and coming back by 3 or 4 so that she can nap in her own crib and not just in the car while we run errands or go here and there, and she's slept through the night for the past 2 nights now. I am hoping that was it!
I think tey also go through seperation anxiety at this time where they wake up and realize you are not right there and just want to see you and know you're around. maybe that is all she needs.
i think it is ok to go in there and give her the paci and sooth her a bit. We try not to take Emily out of the crib but these past few weeks we have beause she was a mess, but try not to do that I think. Maybe even try sleeping one night with a burp cloth or little blanket and then give it to her at night so she at least has your smell? I don't know if that will help.
Hang in there! It's rough sometimes!

Re: Ok, I need advice!
We have been going through the same thing. Jacob for the past couple of weeks has been waking up between 1 and 4, it was taking another hour or so for him to get back to seleep... Finally we gave in and also brought him into our bed which I said we would never do..
I think it is due to teething, seperation anxiety also and it is just a phase.
I have to say I really can't complain since JAcob was sleeping through the night since a month old but you gotta do what you need to do to get them to sleep.
I tried putting him to sleep later than usual at 9:00 and he slept through the night last night.. I hope the craziness is over soon...

I wish I could help...Bella sits up at night sometimes but then falls forward and back to sleep from the situation. It looks soooooo uncomfortable, but DH tried to move her once and THAT woke her up...
She might be a little off from the move and all the craziness...hope she settles down soon

If they are all around the same age they might be having bad dreams

This is what I am so afraid of -- what time do bad dreams start??? I don't want her having bad dreams!!! She seems so terrified sometimes when she wakes up!

Re: Ok, I need advice!
I'm sorry, no advice, I haven't gotten to that point yet but it makes sense what you said about maybe she can't figure out how to lay herself down...or maybe she just wants Mommy to put her back to bed. I used to love to be tucked it...maybe that's part of it. Hopefully she'll get through this phase quickly.

Usually around 9/10 months same time as separation anxiety.

Re: Ok, I need advice!
I think it could be a few things- teething, bad dreams night terrors or separation anxiety. Since she already knows how to put herself to bed I dont think its that. Separation axiety could def be it.

Re: Ok, I need advice!
I could have written this post myself. Every night Talia wakes up twice - once around 10 and once around 4am - we go in, lay her down, rub her back for a minute then walk out. She goes right back to sleep 90% of the time. SOmetimes it takes a little longer and a few back rubs. I find the first time she wakes up she doesn't care who soothes her, but at 4am she only wants my DH - also when she sleeps at my moms house she doesnt do it - so I am convinced it's a seperation thing and I am HOPING she will grow out of it soon!

Ok, so it sounds like most 10-12 month babies are going through the same thing, eh? Glad to hear I'm not the only one! I think yesterday she was soooooooo exhausted from daycare and from her lack of sleep for the last week that she konked out and slept through the night... but I suspect tonight we're on again!
