36-37 wks is when my doc does internals. At 36 wks I thought I was getting an internal, and told I was getting an internal from the nurse. All I had done was the strep swab.

34 weeks is too early
You can always say no to them or tell them to wait till 39 weeks

usually 36-37 wks. mine wouldnt do it until 37 wks, even though i was in the office at 36 wks 5 days and wanted one. lol i wound up in labor at 37 anyway

Im embarrassed to ask this but I live in VA and I have never heard of this (or we dont call it that). Is an internal where they check your cervix for effacement and dilation? Or is it an ultrasound too? 
If its the first one, my doc starts them at 38 weeks. I wanted one last week but they wouldn't do it at 37w4d. My first will be tomorrow.

36w for me. I delivered at 38.5w with #2 so I will most likely deliver early again. UGH i am dreading that, they are the worst!

Yes, an "internal" is when they check for dilation and effacement.
I had my first one at about 36 weeks..I also received the Group B Strep test at the same appointment.
They are definitely uncomfortable..but you could get good news from it :)
