Triggering Sunday :)
Well after my Ectopic in July, I am ready for my(#3) IUI's Mon & Tues.
I went for sono today, and of cousre my Dr. was not in...he won't be in until after Labor day (my luck)
and I had about 8 follies....all on my good side.Measuring b/w 12 -14... The RE said if I was her patient she would tell me to cancel this cycle due to Higher risk for multiples, or convert it to a mini IVF. Well no mini IVF money here, so lets go ahead with IUIs
I told her I am willing to take a risk.....
Am I doing the right thing? (This is all I keep asking myself)
I hope this is it, Please GOD!!!!

Re: Triggering Sunday :)
Honestly I would say it's a touchy area.. It's all your comfort level, but what I DO know is that you ARE putting yourself at risk for high order multiples. Even if HALF of them fertilize, you would have quadruplets.
What are your feelings on that? If this is not something that's OK with you and your dh, are you comfortable with selective reduction? These are things you both have to consider.
Even though it seems like the odds are slim that so many would fertilize after you've had failed cycles already, it IS possible. Many doctors wouldn't even proceed with more than 5 or 6 follies because of the high order multiples risk.
Good luck with whatever you decide!!

Hi Penny, This is crazy. I guess part of me (the negative part) says that Nothing will happen. I guess thats just me setting myself up for another "failed" cycle. I mean, working with one tube..I am hoping at least one sticks.....but if we are talking about more than we could handle..then we would have to really think about selective reduction.
What would you do?

Re: Triggering Sunday :)
I know how it is .. I told Dr.B at one point that I'd like to try and go forward with 10 follies!! Of course he never agreed to that though!!
The most follies I had in a cycle was 5-6.... Of 6 total IUI cycles, I got pregnant with my first pregnancy from 3 follies.. and another time I had a chemical.
I truly believe it's all a numbers game... You can have 5 follies and get nothing... have 2 follies and get pregnant ... I DO think that going forward with 8 IS risking high order multiples... It's taking a chance. You may get pregnant with one .. you may get pregnant with multiples.. and of course there's always the chance none will stick but I think what it comes down to in this case is how comfortable you are with selective reduction if you DID get pregnant with an unsafe amount. That's something you need to decide between you and your DH.

Re: Triggering Sunday :)
Good luck. If u have poor quality eggs I might say go for it but if ur quality is okay I personally would not do it. I know there is no money for ivf but I would hate for u to get preg and put youtrself or the babies at risk. Can u talk to yout personal doctor before triggering?

Re: Triggering Sunday :)
History: 3mths of Clomid and timed intercourse=BFN 1 IUI & clomid =BFN 1 IUI w/follistim & Lupron(3-4 follies) = Ectopic
NO sperm issues, just down to one tube, never any mention of egg quality. Lining great.... But I Do have PCOS!
Ok so now Im nervous...and my belly hurts
and My Dr is away..... far away. So I can't even speak to him.

Re: Triggering Sunday :)
I have one tube and with DD I got pregnant with one when i had two follies....that was iui and cLomid....I had just had surgery for endo and that's why I have one tube but trust me, high order multiples ,ESP greater than 3 can be tough....friend got pregnant with 4 natually and has pcos and it has been a rough first tri,she lost 3 of the 4 and is seeing a high risk OB....good news is the one is doing great but she has had a ton of bleeding.... On flip side, I see your point, it is tough and who wants to cancel a cycle....just keep in mind the risk...

Re: Triggering Sunday :)
This is definitely a tough situation. I mean, if your doctor were here, something tells me s/he would say to cancel. I don't know why this other doctor doesn't stand up to the plate like that and advise you properly. You need medical advice and it does't seem right that just bc your doctor is on vacation, you don't get the proper guidance.
8 follies is a lot. It's a big risk. If it were me, I'd cancel (or do whatever it takes to do a mini IVF!). Good luck, whatever you decide!!

Re: Triggering Sunday :)
I agree with the others, that seems very risky and makes me question the Dr. My RE would not do IUI with that many follies. I know you feel anxious to get pregnant but you haven't been trying that many cycles. I wouldn't take that risk, especially this early into TTC-ing.
I do wish you luck!!!

Re: Triggering Sunday :)
just because your regular doctor is on vacation does not mean that your clinic should allow you to make such a risky decision. are all of your follies actually mature?? if you have 8 mature i cant imagine any doctor doing an IUI. that seems really too risky unless you have a very proven egg quality issue. i had 10 mature follies my first cycle and we had to cancel. it sucked but IMO i'd rather cancel and wait some more than become jon & kate plus 8...

Re: Triggering Sunday :)
as of fri I had 8 measuring 12-14....so I guess I will go in MOnday and see if all matured. If they did, I will not go ahead with the IUI.

That's a good idea! Do you know if they'll do another u/s to check? At my Dr, once you trigger, they don't do anymore u/s, you just get the IUI. I would definitely let them know where you are in your decision and insist on an u/s. Good Luck!!
