Huntington
Can anyone tell me what parts of Huntington are considered Huntington schools?
What about the village-like part up by 25a where all the restaurants are? Is that Huntington schools?
Also, can anyone share their thoughts on the area in general? (I know sometimes questions like this don't work out well but I hope we can all be kind lol. FM me if you prefer.)
TIA!

Re: Huntington
The parts around the village are Huntington schools.
I grew up there and think it's a great town but, the schools don't have the best reputation.
My parents still live there and most of their neighbors send their kids to Catholic or private schools.

Re: Huntington
I will be honest. We are looking in that area and EVERYONE told us NOT to go with Huntington SD. Or send our kids to private school.
The North part of Huntington is HUNTINGTON SD.

Re: Huntington
I think Whitman is better than Huntington SD, but as PPs said, neither are very good.
We just moved from Huntington so we could get into a better school district (among other reasons).

Re: Huntington
ITA with the prior posters. I grew up in South Huntington (SD 13) and Huntington was always the "worse" school district, and South Huntington wasn't great either for a while. I think its ok now, my niece is in the schools there and she has no complaints (shes 10). I also have some friends who send their kids to Whitman now and they're great kids.
If you can afford to, look at areas with CSH schools. They're AMAZZZZZZZZING.
Harborfields SD is also good, I forget what number that is. If I was ranking all the Huntington schools it would look like this:
CSH HHH Harborfields Elwood South Huntington & Northport are probably a tie Huntington
Hope that helps!

Re: Huntington
Part of Huntington is in the Harborfields SD (where I grew up), it's really nice. Also Centerport is in the Huntington Township but all of it is HF SD.
Huntington SD is okay-ish, but parts of Huntington that fall in that school district have beautiful areas to live.
A lot of my family and DH's is from there but everyone just goes to private school.
CSH is of course a really good SD but I find it is small and the kids are mostly very well off so there is a lot of feeling you need to fit in a belong.
But besides the schools I think it is an awesome place to live with a lot to offer and a lot of diversity.
ETA - Harborfields is district 6 i think.
Elwood and Northport are both good school districts as well. John Glenn HS is a lot like HF where it is a smaller school too.

Re: Huntington
i taught summer school in huntington and i can tell you that the high school is infested with giant roaches. when i was there, i took nothing home. i used to come in and kids would be gathered around one that got squished or was just hanging out on the wall.
and by giant i mean 1-2 inches.

Re: Huntington
Since we are interested in that area, we found out that the general concensus is from more diserable to least desirable.
Harborfields SD South Huntington Huntington
Elwood (part of Greenlawn) is a very small SD. Lots of budget crises. May merge with another SD but nobody wants to merge with them. Good if they merge with Harborfiedls or Northport/E. Northport. Bad if they merge with Huntington.
We saw some beautiful houses in Huntington SD. But I can't imagine paying the price of those houses, paying $14-16K in taxes and having to put my kids in private schools.

Re: Huntington
Up along 25A and NY ave is Huntington SD. I think it starts at Pulaski or right by the station. I have friends who live in up by the water and they're looking to move out in the next 2 years, b/c their DD is 2 and they don't want to send her to Huntington schools. Like previous posters, I think South Huntington is the better of the 2, but I wouldn't live along 110 north of Jericho. We rented a small house there over 10 yrs ago and it's not what it used to be. If you want to be up north, then just go a little east to Centerport/Northport, or west to CSH.

Yes, don't go just north of Jericho turnpike.
Part of centerport is Harborfields SD also. the other part is northport/E. Northport SD.

Re: Huntington
Huntington SD is from: (all approximate)
West border: Main St (Huntington CC)/Lawrence Hill Rd (just pass Anne Browers)/Oakwood/Woodbury road (southern part is CSH)/Southdown Rd (most of West Neck is CSH, but the southern part is Huntington)
North - water
East - Just west of Fleets Cove Rd/25A @Washington Dr/Cherry Lane/Park Ave into Dunlap a tiny bit east
South - not quite sure, but about 13-15th St (my guess)/ I think Lake might be the border by East Rogues Path (there is a Huntington elementary school south of Pulaski)

Re: Huntington
We live in Huntington, right by the hospital and park and we are Huntington SD. Almost everyone with kids sends them to private schools, and thats what we plan to do with our kids as well, although we are zoned for Southdown Elementary, which I hear is good.
Schools notwithstanding, I adore this area and wouldn't live anywhere else. We are walking distance to downtown/park and 6 minutes to the train station and we have a half acre of property!
Feel free to FM me if you have any other questions, I love talking about Huntington.

Cherry Lane, a lot of Fleets Cove and Dunlap are all Harborfields SD, I know because kids I went to HS with all lived on these streets.
Maybe things changed but (and I DO NOT mean to offend anyone), but I did not think South Huntington was a good school district, actually when I was little I was in this school district and went to private school, we moved into Huntington/Harborfields SD BECAUSE my parents wouldn't send me to S. Hunt. But maybe it has changed???
If you are looking in that area I would definitely go for HF, I think it is by far the best public school, and you can absolutely live in some parts of Huntington and still be in that school district, also all of Centerport is HF and part of Greenlawn.
Feel free to FM me I have grown up here and still live here!!!
