You can catch the ferry to Block Island. You can rent scooters there and tour the whole island. Also, take a short ride to Narraganset. My friend went a couple of weeks ago and loved it.

For restaurants I def recommend Scales and Shells for dinner (cash only) and The Black Pearl and The Brick Alley Pub for lunch.
You can also do a sunset sail around the harbor, we wanted to do this but it was raining the day we were going to go

looked everything up and saved to my tripadvisor! great suggestions, menus are perfect. can't wait. we may need more than 3 days

the hotel viking, pricey but great food! they also have high tea in the afternoon  I love that! I think we also went to The Black Pearl and liked it a lot. When we do go there we also check out what movies are playing in the old theatre. It is a lot of fun and very relaxing, fudge shops and outdoor bars. Have fun!

I love Newport!!! We got engaged there at the 40 steps at the Cliff Walk!
The Black Pearl is awesome for lunch. Make sure you get the Clam Chowder... so good!
22 Bowens is a steakhouse there. Its really great!!
Do a sunset cruise! Bring a jacket it gets chillly but its so nice!
Theres a ton of bars around 22 Bowen with live music playing.
Oh, and theres one place right there with the best ice cream!
have fun!!!

We took the sailboat tour and there was no wind. 
I don't have better suggestions than those posted, but we did go to a glass blowing place and they had "reject" pieces for cheap. Very pretty globes that we see no inconsistencies with. They hang in my bay window and catch the light beautifully.
