Will you be a super paranoid prego having gone through IF?
Will you follow every rule in the book: no cold cuts, no caffeine, no shelfish, no feta (although most is fine and pasturized).
Do you feel differently now that you have to work so darn hard to GET pregnant?
My answer- I am not heating cold cuts. I get them from a clean place with high turnover and don't eat them that much now. I will still have at least 1 cup of coffee per day. My DH and the rest of the world will thank me for that. I have actually been trying to cut back lately. Feta is both yummy and pasturized so bring it on. I know they say that later on you can have a glass of wine or so, but I rarely drink (maybe 1-2 glasses a month) so I doubt I'll miss it. My big issue will be artificial sweeteners. It's ALL I drink.

Re: Will you be a super paranoid prego having gone through IF?
I think about this sometimes, for me it is SO easy. I don't eat meat or shellfish anyway. I cut out caffeine a long time ago and drink decaff coffee anyway. I don't know much about the cheeses but if feta is okay I will eat it because it is delicious.
As far as alcohol I will not drink alcohol at all, even though I know one glass of wine IS fine, to me if I cannot have several it isn't worth it lol. Artifical sweetners I don't have ever to begin with so it wouldn't be part of my diet anyway.
In general I think moderation is the key, if you ate 16 bananas a day I don't think that would be good for you, so just everything in moderation and you will be fine!
But I think all of us here are probably hyer aware and more nervous than people who get pregnant the first try and have terrific pregnancies.

i wasnt. the only things i completely eliminated were caffeine (eliminated during IVF and throughout pregnancy), alcohol and raw/rare meat and fish (sushi). everything else I did in moderation.

Re: Will you be a super paranoid prego having gone through IF?
I would do anything to ensure a healthy pregnancy and baby. There is so much out of our control that we've battled with, why push the edge with simple things that can be overcome with some self control. I had a m/c with my first pregnancy and then conceived my DD. I didn't eat cold cuts, drink any artificial sweeteners (I cut that out for good with that pregnancy and never went back), sushi, unpasteurized cheeses, wine, etc. Caffeine is said to be okay after the 1st trimester but no more than 300 mg/day or the equivalent of a grande latte at Starbucks. I started drinking about one per week after the 20 week mark. I've already gone from caff to half caff to decaf during this IVF cycle in preparation. As much as I love my coffee, it's just not worth it and there is research that makes some connections to m/c. If I'm lucky enough to have this pregnancy stick (got my BFP today), I'll be sure to do all the same as I did with my DD.

Re: Will you be a super paranoid prego having gone through IF?
At my ultrascreen when I was pregnant last year, I was told by my fetal medicine doctor that I should not be eating feta cheese.. cold cuts.. etc. I told her I had been eating those things in moderation. She then told me that even though it IS rare, she had a friend who lost a pregnancy at 24wks due to listeria.
From that point on, I gave up on all those things. For me, it ended up not mattering. I had horrible complications unrelated to listeria (and less rare, even) and lost the baby anyway.
At this point, I am willing to do anything.. and I mean ANYTHING to give myself the best possible chance of holding on to a pregnancy. I remember Dr.B told me he hadn't seen a case of listeria in 20 years. He also said he hadn't seen a case of amniotic band syndrome in 20 years. See what I'm getting at?

Re: Will you be a super paranoid prego having gone through IF?
I was paranoid but not about things like caffeine, cold cuts and the like. To me, those things were just not on my radar and had nothing to do with the issues I DID have to deal with. I can guarantee I was not on bed rest b/c I ate turkey sandwich and washed it down with unsweetened iced tea!

Re: Will you be a super paranoid prego having gone through IF?
I will probably follow an everything in moderation mindset. I rarely eat cold cuts to begin with and I do not drink coffee. I do, however, have regular soda once a week with pizza as a treat and tea on cold winter nights. I have only has sushi 2 times in my life. I drink 1-2 times a month, but will abstain when pregnant.
My mom had 5 healthy children and followed very few of the rules.

Re: Will you be a super paranoid prego having gone through IF?
I followed the rules, ate no cold cuts, no alcohol, no caffeine. I was nervous until about 24 weeks calmed down until the last few weeks and than I became very paranoid, I started worring that I was so lucky to get pg but wouldn't be lucky enough to have the happy ending. I think next time I'll probably be the same, I think pregnancy is a little bit scary for all moms but having gone through IF makes it a little bit scarier.

Re: Will you be a super paranoid prego having gone through IF?
Im not super paranoid but Im more aware of what I eat. My doctor is very laid back so there are no real rules to follow now that Im pregnant. I don't drink coffee, I haven't had alcohol since the beginning of April, I have a turkey sandwich once in a while, I was told to have it once a week actually. I went and saw a nutritionist after I got pregnant and I thought he was crazy and I don't really follow much of what he said. I try to include healthy foods more often, fruit over oreos, salads over burgers if I like the salad. I do love pizza and I eat that too. I think it also depends on your own cravings. It's very hard to say no to a food when your whole body is telling you the only thing they want is a hot fudge sundae and that an apple is not going to make up for it. I still religiously drink one cup of this Mother to Be tea that I started before I did IVF. The food aspect aside after what it took to get to this point it is harder to relax now. You do constantly worry, pray and wonder. I don't think you ever relax until you give birth and then a whole wave of nerves begin.

Re: Will you be a super paranoid prego having gone through IF?
First pregnancy I was so paranoid that I didnt even take my morning sickness pills right and was sick severly with hyperemisis until 24 weeks....I never thought I would get pregnant again but i am and would say am a bit more laid back....I'll have Caffiene here and there, take benadryl here and there but overall still cautious...I'm on zofran again and haven't had a thing to eat in 11 weeks but it's hard, you work so hard to have a baby I find myself more volatile than were I to get pregnant bam!
