Bed Bugs - Paranoid!!!
After hearing about all the bed bugs going around I am so hesitant about going anywhere if we had to stay in a hotel. Just the thought of it really grosses me out.
Is this something I really should worry about? Is there anyway I can check for them if we do get a room somewhere?
I'd really hate for this to ruin any kind of family vacation.
Thanks!

Exactly....and just stay away from the pay-by-the-hour type establishments and you should be ok!

Check the mattress. Pull off the sheets and check around the seams because this is where they hide. Look for black dots or red smudges. Also, around tags and labels. Check your pillows too. Don't leave your luggage on the bed or any upholstery and if possible far from the bed (just in case). I travel a lot and this is my routine. I'm paranoid too!

I know what you mean - I'm a worrier too. And, although I'm sure you will be fine, you can buy a spray that kills bed bugs. I bought it at Home Depot. I never stay at a hotel without that and my can of lysol.

I always check the mattress of any hotel I stay in, especially by the headboard. Youd be surprised how many cases of them there are in fancy schmancy hotels.

I stay in a lot of hotels and always pull the sheets off and look at the mattress. You could also run a sticky tape lint roller on the bed and in the creases. Also don't put your belongings on the floor like someone else said, and do not use the dresser drawers. I leave all our stuff in the suitcase and put it on top of a hard surface. I have yet to encounter any bed bugs.
There is also a bed bug registry. If you google you can find it.

yes! true, the fancy ones are just as susceptable. agree with pp take all sheets and boxspring covers off and check thoroughly in the crevices.
agree also about luggage on hard surfaces only. i check everywhere we go!

Exactly. Also, don't bring your own pillows or blankets because the biggest culprit for the spread of bed bugs is carrying the critters back home on your own pillows/blankets.
