This is so gross but...
How do you get rid of maggots?? I got home from work today, walked by the garbage can outside the house and there were about 50 of them crawling ON the can!! I RAN away screaming!! We live upstairs from my IL's and they usually take care of the garbage but they've been in Florida for the past few days and we just didn't think about because we don't generate that much garbage.
DH poured scalding hot water on the can and then flooded it but I'm afraid that it didn't do much. Ughhh I keep thinking I'm feeling something crawl on me!

Re: This is so gross but...
Ugh this happened to us in June and I still get the heebes thinking about it. We had a BBQ and one of the bags of garbage must have been ripped and we didn't realize there was still some garbage at the bottom of the pail.
We basically hosed it down and then bleached the crap out of it and let it soak in the bleach over night.

Re: This is so gross but...
This happened to us over the July 4th weekend when we didn't have pick up.
I had DH bring the can down to the curb, pour bleach in it and hose it out. Then we let it air dry open for a day or two.
