register for both sets?

My husband and I don't want to find out and I was wondering if anyone has this predicament..
The baby's nursery is done (painted tan and white trim) and I'd like to get a dark wood crib (but I like white!!!) to go with both and was wondering if you register for a boy bedding set and a girl bedding set, a boring gender neutral one OR none at all (but I don't want to pay for it myself ;) and have to get it after the baby is born.. What should I do?

Re: register for both sets?

We registered for a gender neutral set during my last pregnancy. It's not boring at all, it's really cute. There are a lot of options out there for neutral. I would feel terrible registering for both sets, because then when the baby is born, whoever bought the wrong gender will know that their gift is getting returned and I think that would be a crappy feeling! So I would either buy it yourself or register for gender neutral.

Re: register for both sets?

With my twins, I didn't know what I was having so I bought 2 girl sets and 2 boy sets. My poor dad did a lot of returns for me when I was still in the hospital. I didn't want gender neutral.

Re: register for both sets?

i know a lot of people who register for a set each. if you are registered at bru though it might be a pain with the returns

I just feel like everything is going to be gender neutral and the real reason I thought about registering for both was because I saw a really cute boy set.
Skinny, what did your babies sleep in when they came home? I'm also wondering how I would wash the baby's bedding while in the hospital.. Or maybe I'll put the baby in a bassinet?

Re: register for both sets?

OMG THIS CUT OFF HALF MY POST!!! LOL

it really started out saying how we wanted to register for both, but thought that would be weird if ppl see 2 sets not knowing what to buy etc, and not getting other stuff we really need but tons of bedding related stuff (of course that you can return)

so then i thought, DH and I will just buy 2 sets, but then i worried, what if something is discontinued or out of stock for a while that goes with the set that we use??? then what? so then we thought we'll not just buy both beddings, but both full accessories as well, but now we're talking me spending 800 bucks, (returning like 400 of it after of course)...then realized thats alot of money that we could really use for something else, not to mention will I have an extra 400 lying around at the time???

so we decided to go with a neutral set, that other people can buy for us, and we love it and I'm thrilled with it

but I definitely contemplated many ways to do both...I guess ifyou have the $$ to do it, then definitely it is a great idea!

I haven't registered yet but I'm just wondering.. Is BRU difficult for returns? I was thinking about BBB instead with everyone's positive posts.

you could do the bassinet, or you could always send your mom, MIL, DH, or FIL or someone like that to your house to wash it for you the second you know what gender your baby is...and it will be ready by the time you come home...

and as far as everything being neutral, I still want the room to be something gender specific....

so what we're doing is the bottom half of the walls will be chair rail and raised paneling, and we will be leaving the top half plain until I have the baby...this will leave not much area left to paint, and I've chosen a boy color(a sky blue) and a girl color (a peachy pink) that both match the neutral set wonderfully...DH and my dad said that as soon as baby's born, they will take the swatch to Home Depot and have the paint mixed, go back to my house and paint it...it will be all dried and the room all aired out by the time we get home :)

I heard that BRU is bad with returns so we just registered at BBB.

We had originally registered for a neutral bedding set but took it off the registry. I plan to just buy it when the baby comes.

MathWife, that's a great idea! We just had the room done and weren't going to paint it until closer to due date but the guy offered and I was like SURE! I wanted to get everything cleaned and organized before going back to work because of how busy Sept-Nov is with school!
MrsP, that's where I think I'll go then but I don't think my mom or husband would let me register for two lol! Maybe I'll just wait and see??

Re: register for both sets?

Maybe register for one neutral and then return it and buy the boy or girl one you want?

Re: register for both sets?

We are team Chat Icon and wanted a gender specific room. In a soft moment, I gave in to DH's suggestion to set the room up AFTER our LO is born - so we don't even have the room painted!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon What was I thinking?!?!? At 39 weeks, I wish I had just picked a neutral color and only needed to worry about the bedding!

I did register for both sets and got all of the girl stuff...lol So we will see what happens!!!

I registered for one of each , the baby will go in the pac n play in the beginning so we dont need the bedding right away (and nobody will buy me anything until the baby is born anyway so i dont have to worry about exchanges)
