I Had Old Highlights and Wanted To Get Rid of Them, So I Used a Brown Hair Dye AND...
It looks too dark on me and I feel like I look dull. What do you "experts" suggest I do? I'd hate to start up with highlights AGAIN but is this my only way to lighten the base up? The color has been in for two weeks so its not lightening anymore.
Thanks

I did the same exact thing over a year ago and now I'm back to highlights. It was just too dark for me and highlights were the only way to lighten me up all over. I actually had to have my base dyed before the highlights as well.

I did exactly what you did that and while it was a little too dark at the beginning, after a few washes they lightened up and now my hair has a very natural color. I actually get a lot of compliments on my color bc now the highlights are kind of peeking through the brown but its still looks natural. I am not touching my hair until the highlights all grow out. I've had highlights since highschool and Im done for now.

I went to a colorist and had them dye my hair a nice shade of brown that was not flat and then put a few face framing light brown highlights. I like it. I was afraid it would be too dark but she did a great job. I did a light brown.

If you use a clarifying shampoo it will lighten your hair after a few washes and like pp said the highlights will peek through. I have done the same thing before.

depending on how dark it is in real life would depend on how i would fix this.
sometimes its actually not toooo dark its just dull and flat and i would add a semi warm glaze to the roots.
sometimes no matter what a color correction is needed.
personally after 2 or 3 clarifying shampoos i tend to say stop doing that bc it will only make your hair more porous for future coloring and your hair might grab or process funny kwim? if you need any help please let me know! xox
