Nervous about Clomid/Metformin

My GYN wants to possibly start me this week on Metformin and/or Clomid to help with TTC. I am going this week to discuss my bloodwork/sono. I was diagnosed with PCOS last year and my hormone levels are a bit out of sync.

I have read about Metformin and the side effects (my stomach is very sensitive) and it is making me nervous! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Please give me some advice, your experience, your success with conceiving on this medication/s. No one I know has any experience with this. I am a ball of nerves, but I really want to have a baby, so I am determined to give this a try. Chat Icon what were your experiences like on Metformin and or Clomid?

Thanks so much!

Re: Nervous about Clomid/Metformin

My first cycle with 50 mg Clomid and IUI worked for us ... we are very lucky to have had a success quickly with seeing a RE.

My own personal feeling is that I wouldn't start any fertility meds under the care of only a GYN. I'd want to see a RE and be monitored. I'd want to have testing done first.

I agree, see an RE for fertility treatments. I started Clomid/Metformin under the care of an Gyn. I did a total of 3 cycles on Clomid and was never monitored. We decided tos ee an RE before starting the 4th cycle. GL!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I also agree about seeing an RE. I was put on Clomid and was "supposed" to O between CD 12-14, but didn't O until CD 19. I only knew that because I went in for monitoring (an internal sono to look at my ovaries) every 2 days at the RE's office. If I'd only been going to a GYN, we wouldn't have known this, probably wouldn't have BD'ed or had an IUI on CD 19, and I wouldn't have gotten pg.

Anyway... side effects were minimal. On 50mg of Clomid, all I had were occasional hot flashes. And I'm really sensitive to medications - I won't even take cold medicine most of the time because I hate how woozy it makes me!

Re: Nervous about Clomid/Metformin

I totally understand being nervous! I was having difficulty and first my reg. GYN said "you're young" lets try Clomid. I read about it online and started a cycle. I felt that my gyn was not giving me the proper care when using Clomid so I sought a RE.

Turns out we had more challenges then just PCOS and needed more medications/guidance. I would def. suggest seeing an RE.

As for Clomid, I had hot flashes while taking it. The Metformin messed with my belly but I started on a low dosage and went up from there. I always took it after dinner too.

I wish you all the best,
FM me!
