TAXES
Im looking to move from Shoreham closer to work in the Sayville area. I LOVE what we have here but its an hours drive after dropping off 3 kids at 3 different places and I think my house needs to be bigger LOL
We have big bedrooms, 2 baths and a nice sized eat in kitchen, but the only hang out areas are small and basically all connected. Theres no escaping LOL Id love to have a basement playroom or something.
Anyway, on to my question. Im starting to think that maybe my taxes here are sooo good that Im never going to find a home with taxes anywhere near it. IMO the taxes are just as important as the home price b/c Ill be paying them forever and they just keep going up.
I pay $7500 here for a half acre on a culdesac with IG pool, 2 car detached garage and a 3bed/2bath expanded ranch.
Just about everything I have looked at is approx $11 - $12! Im not sure if I should still even bother looking I dont want to build up b/c I dont want to tack a loan onto my mortgage.
Is there places near Sayville with good school districts that have lower taxes??

Re: TAXES
We didn't look in the same area as you, but taxes are the primary reason we were priced out of places we wanted to live in Nassau County.
I feel like almost anywhere halfway decent one would buy on the island these days is going to cost you minimally $8K a year.
We pay $8500/yr for our teeny-tiny 3 bedroom home in SS/Western Suffolk Co.
The SD is not one of the better ones either.
P.S. Sayville is a beautiful area. We can't go that far East though since my IL's (DS childcare) live in Seaford.

Re: TAXES
My parents live in Oakdale, south of Montauk and pay a little over $9,000. 1/4 acre, 3 bed split.

Re: TAXES
Shoreham has relatively low taxes because of the power plant.
For the Oakdale, Sayville, Great River, E Islip area, you will probably be able to find something with taxes between $8-$10K.

Re: TAXES
Definitely check out Holbrook. It's near Sayville, lots of shopping and part of sachem schools and fairly low taxes.

Ditto. With star I pay under $6,000/year.
