I heard a rumor about the hsg exam...
After you get it done you are more likely to get pregnant( if in fact your tubes are open) because it clears them out more is this true? If so I definately want to do it I don't care how painful it is

I was also told the same thing....it was not the case for me, but supposedly works for some. If the dr. wants you to have it anyway then why not. It wasn't that bad of an experience for me.....just more uncomfortable.

Re: I heard a rumor about the hsg exam...
I think it only helps you get pregnant if you had a teeny tiny blockage that the dye can push through. Or it enlarges them slightly.
It didn't work for me, but also didn't hurt at all. AF cramps are like 100x worse for me. And it is over with in 1 minute. I went on my lunch break!

They told me this too. One was blocked, but they said mucus could have been in the other ans got knocked out by the dye. I didnt get pregnant after adn I had 2 of them 6 months apart.

Re: I heard a rumor about the hsg exam...
the tech did mention that when i had the test done. she said sometimes the blockage can be as simple as some dried blood or dead cells since the tubes are so incredibly thin. the test itself will clear something like that out and improve your chances.
ETA: the cycle after the cycle when i had the test i got pregnant and had a chemical. that was my 3rd chemical tho, so i don't know if it means anything.

Re: I heard a rumor about the hsg exam...
The only time i got pregnant on my own was after the 1st HSG exam. And it was crazy easy that month. Unfortunately, it only lasted 5w4d but that was probably due to things later learned (hypothyroidism and elevated NK cells, not to mention AMA). so, it very very possible!!! Good luck! Monitor your LH because the HSG could throw your cycle off a day or 2.
Oh and the HSG said that my right tube was blocked. I ovulated on the right side. So so much for the HSG results. Later find out that it could show the tube blocked but sometimes when they shoot the liquid through the tubes contract, looking like a blockage when not. Or it unblocked the side. Who knows. Complete mystery to me.

Re: I heard a rumor about the hsg exam...
Actually, I got pg two days after my HSG in 2008 (after 13 cycles ttc). Now that we've been ttc'ing #2 for a while with no success, I'm calling my doctor for a second HSG... And keeping my fingers crossed this does the trick again.
I know at least two other people IRL who had the same experience. My doc said it can increase chances by 30% for three months after the test.
Good luck!
