Trimester question
This is kind of dumb and I think it may have been asked already but when is the first trimester over?
I have a book called Pregnancy Day by Day and they start counting the second trimester from "12 weeks 1 day" but call it the 13th week which is confusing. It's like the book is a week ahead of the actual days? I would think you are in your 13th week the day after you are 12 weeks 6 days. At least that is the way I'm counting.
Can someone tell me in weeks and days when the second trimester starts?
I'm sorry if that was confusing
ETS: I googled and people seem to say anything from 12-14 weeks.

Re: Trimester question
13+13+13=39 weeks, so 13 + a few days is a good guide.
13w3d - start 2nd 27w - start 3rd

I agree with this.
Also, to answer OP's question about 13th week starting at 12w1d... once you hit 12 weeks, you start counting into the next week. So when you are 12 weeks pregnant, that means you have completed 12 weeks of pregnancy, and after that, you begin the 13th week, but you aren't 13 weeks pregnant until the end of that week, KWIM? It's like the way we count age. You don't come out 1 year old, so until you turn 1, you are in your first year. Then, the day after your first birthday, you start your 2nd year of life. Hope that clears it up!

Re: Trimester question
Thank you girls for answering.
I know it sounds silly but I just want to be in the second trimester already. I feel like mentally I may be able to relax a little bit knowing the entire first trimester is behind me.

Re: Trimester question
The reason it counts it that way is because technically, the first week of pregnancy (even though you're not really pregnant yet) would be considered 0w1d, 0w2d, etc. But you are in your first week. Once you hit 1w1d you have already technically been pregnant for a week and are entering your 2nd week. So you say you're 12w1d pregnant, but really you are entering the 13th week of being pregnant.
Does that make sense?
Anyway, my doctor told me that 13/14 weeks is when your 1st tri ends. It is my understanding that developmentally speaking, after 12 weeks the baby enters a new phase of growth, which I guess is why some websites/books consider that the end of the trimester. After I hit 14weeks was when I started saying I was in my 2nd tri.
