Pediatrician

When you pick a pediatrician, do you call the office to let them know, or just wait until you go to the hospital and give them the information for your pediatrician?

Also, how many pediatricians did you look into before picking one? I only went to one on my list, but I really LIKED him and the practice. I think I just want to go with them!

We met with three pediatricians... The ped's we chose told us to just let the hospital know and they should make the call for us. It cant hurt to give them a ring and let them know youve chosen them, and ask the receptionist how you should handle it.

Re: Pediatrician

I called my pediatrician's office last week and was able to get an appt for this past Saturday morning. We met with Dr. Woletsky, who we both really liked. Great personality and very professional office. VERY nice staff! Plus, my OB recommended him, along with a TON of ladies on these boards. I personally feel better knowing who my baby's doctor will be before the "big day".

I guess you can do pretty much do what you'd like... meet with a pediatrician first, call them to let them know you'll be choosing them and maybe ask them a few questions or just list his/her name on the pediatrician line on the hospital form when you get there.

From what I understand, even a doctor who isn't accepting "new patients" will take newborns.

Good luck!

I called two places. One doesn't have do interviews, the other has a monthly orientation session (but the next one is 5 days before my due date!). So I probably won't meet any of the doctors, which is fine with me. I'm going by friends' recommendations anyway, and I trust them more than any info I'd get from an awkward interview (because I'd be nervous and unsure of what to say!).

Both offices told me that I don't need to do anything but give their names to my hospital when I'm in labor. The hospital will call them and schedule them to come in to check on the baby when its born.

Re: Pediatrician

I called one based on my sisters recommendation. They told me to just give the hospital their name and to call within a day of delivery to make an appointment.

They want to see the baby 2 days after birth especially if you are bFing to make sure he/she is maintaining a healthy weight.

Ditto.
You list them on the forms you fill out at the hospital and after your baby arrives, the hospital contacts them.
If they are affliated with the hospital you deliver at, they will come to see the baby that day or the next day on rounds.

Oh, I went to one pediatricians office..It was an orientation type thing and I LOVED the Dr and the office. I just know a lot of people go to a few doctors to "shop around," but I was really happy with this one so I think I'm going to just stick with him and not look into the others on my list.

Thanks everyone!!

Who did you wind up picking? I know we were looking at a lot of the same doctors. I'm 99% sure I'm going with Bellmore-Merrick!
