Re: Q for former renters...

We had super cheap rent for the area and what we were renting - $950 included ALL. Our mortgage (with taxes and escrow) is $1750 more a month.

haha - it was a shock to the system to write out that first check this week (even though we were prepared and even though we were saving more than twice that amount every month).

But like Kristin said, it's all worth it in the end Chat Icon

About a thousand more than we did in rent (that includes taxes and HO ins). But it's worth it- we got a very nice income tax refund this year, much better than when we were renting. And that was being in the house only about half the year.

Ours too!! We bought back 10 years ago though so that is really the only reason.

Re: Q for former renters...

when I bought in February 2000, I was paying $950+ for a studio apt and my mortgage for a 2 bedroom, 1.5 bath was only $200 more a month!

This is the exact reason I have such COLD FEET about buying. The difference in our rent and mortgage/tax/homeowners/PMI is such a huge differencer right now.

I can't tell you guys how many times my DH and I calculated the numbers over and over. We were sure that we couldn't do it. We've honestly had no problem - and that is really only on salary alone.

Re: Q for former renters...

We had really cheap rent (it helped to live with a family member), and our mortgage plus taxes, insurance is more than 2K more than our rent was. I was scared at first, and did all the number crunching too, but we have not had any problems, and we've even been able to do some improvements and buy furniture.

Re: Q for former renters...

We're in a co-op, so the mortgage is only about $300 more than our rent, but add the maintenance fees and we're almost $1000 above rent!
