Back pain...please help!
I have the WORST back pain!! And it keeps getting worse. It's only on the left side of my back...mainly on my left shoulder blade and about halfway down my back on the left side through right above my butt area. The pain is so bad...it's only when I'm sitting or lying down. No matter what I do I can't relieve or get comfortable. It goes away almost immediately when I stand up or start walking. Anyone else experience this pain or can offer up some help? I have my next doctor appointment next Thursday but it's so bad I don't know what to do! Do I just have to suck it up and deal with it? Any remedies PLEASE share!! I have tried getting my husband to massage it (which usually does wonders for my sore back) but not even that helps!! Thanks!!!

Heat is your friend with back pain.
Hot shower ... if you have a massaging shower head that may help too
Hot water bottle
Heating pad
And most OBs will allow Tylenol, it might take the edge off a bit.
Feel better!

Hmm ok thanks! I thought using a heating pad was a no-no? Because that sounds nice right now!

I'm not sure ... my Dr hasn't told me not to. Maybe call yours and ask? I wouldn't let it get too hot if you do use it.

Seriously... call your doc and ask if you can bring in a urine sample to make sure it's not a UTI.
I had EXCRUCIATING back pain around 22-24 weeks (I don't know how far along you are, but regardless...). I went for a massage and it made it WORSE, which is SO opposite the norm. I tried EVERYTHING - Tylenol, heating pads, ice, etc. I would wake up CRYING in the middle of the night because of how much it hurt to MOVE.
I went to my doc and she did a dip test and saw immediately that it was a UTI.
UTI's don't sound like such a big deal... unless you're pregnant!
Not to scare you, but it resulted in contractions/pre-term labor symptoms for me. I'm still cooking my baby boy at 36w6d, but I had to go on bed rest - and I blame it all on the stupid UTI.
Just make sure you at least bring in a sample ASAP to rule it out or so you can hopefully nip it in the bud early! Feel better!

Re: Back pain...please help!
I had very bad back pain starting at 14-16 weeks and it didnt go away until the middle of my 3rd trimester. I was told a heating pad, ice pack or extra strength tylenol were ok. I think the ice pack worked the best. Tylenol didnt do a thing. I used to sit at my desk and cry b/c I was so uncomfortable and in so much pain and I work long hours so it was horrible. My sonos are done by a perinatologist and he said everything was fine and it was just "pregnancy related". Feel better.

Re: Back pain...please help!
Kris, I'm having similar pain, I think I mentioned it once before when you were having sciatica problems...
It's almost ALL left side, mostly by shoulder blade but also goes down further...
I have a Homemedics shiatsu massage/heat thing that goes on our couch, but you're right, it will relieve it for a few, then 5-10 mins later it hurts again...which is why I don't bother DH or I'd be asking him every 10 minutes...
I'm actually going to a Chiropractor today....I'm thinking (because I've had similar back pain in the past and now it's recurred 10x worse w/the pg) that most of it is tension built up from new weight in my breasts, etc, and that an adjustment will relieve that built up tension...we'll see!! I'll let you know how I feel tonight after the adjustment
and I know mine isn't a UTI because I was just at GYN on Monday and gave a sample...

Re: Back pain...please help!
It's sciatica.
Google strecthes for sciatica those helped.
I got a prenatal massage that really helped subside the pain.
Sleep with a body pillow. Sleep with your feet elevated (on like on or two pillows)
These things all helped. Also i think my baby shifted, I hope yours does too.
Oh and wear comfy shoes---I wear these flimsy flipflops and I think they made it worse.

Re: Back pain...please help!
I've had the same with my 1st pregnancy and now my 2nd. My dr told me NO heating pad! Your body temp can not get above a certain temp, even if its just your back. Plus all specialist I went to said ICE was the best thing for it. Heat and ice do different things and for this particular problem - it needed ice. Good luck!!!!

I went to a chiro before I became pregnant for other back problems. Makes me nervous for them to do all that cracking with the baby in there! What do they do to you when you go? Let me know if it helps you or not and maybe I'll make an appointment if my doctor doesn't sway it's anything more serious!

Haven't even thought to try ice! But if it helps I'll definitely give it a try. Thanks!!

Ugh I hope not!! I have my appointment next Thursday. They always do urine samples when I get there so I will definitely mention it to them when I give it to them. Hopefully it's something not too bad!!

Re: Back pain...please help!
I too had back pain- lower back pain (along with some pressure on my abdomin) and it turned out to be a UTI.
Definitly get checked for that. Btw doc's office said its two different samples that they need , the regular sample for testing protein etc and the other one specifically for teh dip test for testing for UTI. So you may have to "go" again in the doctors office lol.. Im sure that wouldnt be a problem since you're probably already going every hour or so.
Hope you feel better!!
