Best time of year to visit France?
DH and I have enough points for a free RT trip to Europe and we're thinking of using them to go to France.
What is the best time of year to visit? We're thinking of doing Paris and Nice and possibly taking a trip into Switzerland.
When did you go and what was the weather like?

Re: Best time of year to visit France?
First week of May - AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!
High 70's/low 80's
After easter, so less crowded than that prime week and less crowded than summer.
Still warm enough to enjoy the outdoors, picnic, etc.
All the flowers were in bloom.
Absolutely amazing

Re: Best time of year to visit France?
We went this past holy week and although ppl said its usually rainy, we had absolutely glorious weather. i would not recommend that week in particular though since its so busy.
eta if youre going to do a side trip, definitely look into bruges for a day. my pics are on FB

Great pictures!!! Can you send me your itinerary?? How long were you there for? Did you stay overnight in Bruges? (In Bruge, great movie ) We're thinking of flying out on a Friday night and then coming home the following Saturday or Sunday giving us 7-8 full days.

Re: Best time of year to visit France?
September was gorgeous. Mild weather, cool breezes we walked everywhere and never broke a sweat. DH was in short sleeves the entire time, I usually was too with a cardigan or something with it

Re: Best time of year to visit France?
We're going in September. Flying into Amsterdam for a few days, then train to Paris for a week, then train to Aix en Provence for about another week. Possibly doing a day trip to Nice or Cannes. Flying home from Lyon.
I'd absolutely recommend booking your lodging now, because our 1st and 2nd choices for each area were already booked for our dates. Trip Advisor is amazing for reviews. I'd read the worst ones first, and note the dates. So many of the reviews for Paris said that the AC was broken for their stay.

Definitely September or May. You still have great weather minus the awful crowds.

I agree. We went all over Europe from May 9th-Memorial weekend. Best weather!

We spent a couple of weeks in the French Riviera and Switzerland during late September and early October and the weather was beautiful! Perfect!

Re: Best time of year to visit France?
I went for Mother's Day 2 years ago and it was a little chilly but made due with a light jacket and scarf.
Also it rained a lot but light rain. Just be sure to bring layers and small umbrella.
Bon Voyage!

Re: Best time of year to visit France?
It really is a hit and miss. In May/June it can rain a lot.
I think September is best but not the hottest.
