Swimming Pool Question
We now have a new above ground pool. The installers came yesterday and it's filling with water as we speak.
A trip to the pool store yielded a f*ck ton of stuff to put in the pool at various times and sometimes more than once. I've started to wade through the mountain of instruction and literature.. but there is one question that none seem to give a clear answer on.. which is HOW LONG until they can swim?
Based on how long it's been filling and how deep it is currently, it will probably be full by tomorrow late afternoon/early evening. Once it's full I can start treating it. But.. how long do I need to wait from the time of treating it until they can actually be cleared to swim in it? If I start tomorrow should it be done by Saturday?
I ask because we are having Noah's bday on Saturday and I will have kids bring their suits if they can swim.. but I don't want to ask adn disappoint!
Thanks!

Re: Swimming Pool Question
For most chemicals a few hours is ok. For shock though you have to watch. What you can do is bring a sample of your water to any pool store. They will test the levels for free- and let you know if the chlorine level has dropped enough to go swimming!
Enjoy!

Re: Swimming Pool Question
Get the pool test strips. Check the levels. If they're okay, it's okay to swim.
This will save you a sh!tload of money on "pool" chemicals. The only thing I wouldn't use is the bleach as a substitute for the chlorine tablets as I've heard it can harm your filter and pump but I've been substituting everything else with no problem.
Pool chemicals are a huge rip off.

We got a new pool 2 years ago and we just tested the water and when it was okay we went in. It was by the next day the pool was filled

Re: Swimming Pool Question
We just opened the pool and have to "shock" it... the pool store should have told you about it--if not, you can ask for shock. I think it's just a high level of chlorine to literally shock the heck out of the water and kill anything that's not supposed to be there.
The shock should wear off in a day or two--but you definitely need to test the water. they have test strips and they have pool tester kits as well. You may have to adjust the pH of the pool as well (they sell pH Up and pH Down depending on your needs.)
Here is a good tutorial from Brothers 3 Pools' website.

I hope this helps!
