Is anyones DH a volunteer firefighter
My area is always looking for volunteer firefighters. DH was thinking of getting more info. Is anyone else DH a volunteer? What does it entail?

Re: Is anyones DH a volunteer firefighter
My DH is not a volunteer but is a NYC firefighter. He looked into becoming a volunteer in our area. I know you get a decent tax break! But he also said that it takes a lot of dedication and time. You have to answer a certain number of calls a month.
A fellow FF in his "house" is a volunteer and his wife told me that between working his full time job and volunteering he is never home, but he is also a die hard firefighter.

Re: Is anyones DH a volunteer firefighter
my hubby is not, but the rest of my family is. There is a probationary course he will have to go through. And once he passes that and the medical portion, there are monthly "point" requirements to maintain - meaning, alarms, meetings, and functions are all worth a number of points and he must attend so many meetings and alarms per month to stay active. I think it is great he is thinking of doing this. I have always felt proud of my family for their efforts. In addition, after a year of service you are entitled to a $200 tax credit on your state income tax return.

My whole family has been involved. It does require some time especially in the beginning when you have to go through training. Some put more time and effort into it than others.
