I wanted to see just how you went about this?
I am in NC and would love to open my own business....but I feel like it's a dream since I have no business background or formal training....but I am not afraid to learn!

Figured it can't hurt to ask here!

I am not either but I am assuming you would need to go to culinary school/restaurant management school first. Unless you just wanted to cater in that case you may just need a license for food safety.

That's my thoughts too.

My brother is a restaurant owner/chef, I asked him!

Technically, if you do not have the education/experience, but you have the money to open a restaurant, you can.

You could manage it yourself, or have someone else run it.

You'd need SOMEONE in the kitchen to have a Food Managers Certificate, which is just a class and passing a test. Suffolk Community offers this class, I'm sure many other places do as well.

So, although you'd have a lot of research to do, the short answer to your question is, yes, you can open a restaurant without prior education/experience.

my bil and a partner (who is also the chef) bought an existing business. completely did a 180 with it and then reinvested the profits into a second location.
