What would you do different?
I think I would have not wasted all that money on BC and used it to save for IVFChat Icon

Re: If you knew then what you know now?

i wouldnt change much.

i was not mentally ready for children until we started trying.

granted i didnt know it would be taking so long...but... if i had gotten pregannt right away i am not sure i would be in the same mental state as i am now. now i am VERY mentally prepared for a child.

maybe i would have skipped the first 2 iuis with clomid...i feel lthose were a waste- and have jumped to Lap surgery months earlier- but i was listening to my RE who thought my chances were very good.

Re: If you knew then what you know now?

There really isn't much I would change..... Maybe I would have stayed in my apartment building a little longer. It's sad having this house with an empty nursery Chat Icon However, I do LOVE living here.

I would have tried earlier after having DD. We started when she was 21 months old thinking we could have #2 when she was 2.5 or so. That would have been perfect. Now they'll be a minimum of 4 years apart and that makes me sad. I would have started trying when DD turned 1, we were not ready any earlier.

I would have started TTC right after getting married instead of waiting 8 months.

Also when I went to my regular gyno for a check up I would have insisted on blood work. I got it but apparently she only checked to see if I carried a cystic fibrosis trait!

I would have found out I had Hashimoto's and low vitamin D back then.

I wouldn't have waited two years...I would have looked into my husbands IF package as well as my own before picking a plan, I wouldn't have been so "open" about trying to have a baby, I wouldn't have told anyone about my first miscarriage...I could go on and on, but those are off the top of my head!

Re: If you knew then what you know now?

Since DH had a SA a few years ago, I knew this was going to be a long journey, but we were not ready to have children yet. Even after the SA, I still took BC because of the "what if". Now I know I wasted a ton of money on something that was completely unnecessary!

Re: If you knew then what you know now?

Honestly nothing. I think I needed to go through everything I went through to get to this point. I had to have the highs, the lows, the negatives and everything else to appreciate what I have now. I started when I get married, threw away those BC pills right away in 2004 and now 7 yrs later I was ready to move on to the happiness. I don't think we were ready then. We traveled, spent money, we had fun, yes we cried a lot and never thought we would get to this point of happiness. I appreciate everything more now because of what we went through.

I couldnt agree more! this is me, except we w're married 5 yrs, not 7. We waited a solid 2.5 yrs before not being cautious. Since then we've had one loss and a lot of tears. Yes its a very difficult journey but I am who I am (and Im proud of that person) and dh and I are stronger than I ever imagined because of this tough journey. I don't wish it on anyone but I don't think I would have changed anything. We had a lot of fun traveling and all that! I certainly wish I had a LO but our time will come.. hopefully sooner rather than later!

I wouldn't have worried too much about trying not to get pregnant. I also would have TTC sooner. I bet if I did that though, I'd have 5 kids by now. Chat Icon

<3

Everything along this journey, the good, the bad, the ugly, has shaped me into the woman, wife, daughter, sister, friend, teacher that I am today. I don't have regrets but of course I wish that things could have been different, the suffering, the losses, the pain, etc.

If I had to share one piece of advice it would be, "Don't wait." Don't wait to begin this journey, don't wait until you have a baby to take a vacation, to go shopping, etc. Just do it. Move forward with your life. My three years being an IF patient have gone by so fast. Talk about it. Share your experiences. Chances are someone else has been in a similar situation.

Re: If you knew then what you know now?

I'd like to be able to say that I would've one it anyway, even knowing I would end up never getting to have a baby, but I wouldn't. If I had known what I know now, I never would've done any IF treatments, at all.

i would never have touched BCP.
also maybe i would've done thrombo and immune panels earlier in my treatment (instead of only after m/c).

I would've found someone to do an IN DEPTH immune testing/clotting testing... and questioned my dr's earlier/more Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I also would done at least 2 or 3 ivf cycles in my early 20s to bank all of our embryos since I've been w/ DH since i was 17 and married him when I was 24 (and been trying since then as well). Then I could've just continued to do FETs thru the years (plus back then I had 3 fresh cycles covered at either 90 or 100%)!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Since hindsight is 20/20 I can think of a million things I could of/should of/ would of done different. But the 2 biggies for me would be

--put my embarrassment aside and gone to an RE sooner

--asked about/pushed for the ovarian drilling earlier (I knew about it but no one ever mention it, so I finally said "hey, what about this?")
