Levitt house owners...question about chimney in upstairs room

Those of you that own a Levitt House and have the chimney in one of your upstairs bedrooms....

-Have you removed just the chimney portion in the bedroom but left the brick and fireplace on the first floor? If so, did you do this yourself or did you pay someone? If you paid someone, how much did this cost?

-Have you removed the fireplace and chimney? If so, how much did this cost to do?

TIA!

Re: Levitt house owners...question about chimney in upstairs room

Im going to assume you are venting out your boiler through another sort of chimney right?

If you don't need that chimney anymore, it's possible it can be removed and cut off. But then you might as well cut out the fireplace on the first floor as well.

You would be best to talk to a contractor to get a real price as there is no way to estimate this properly without seeing your situation.

Where is the gas? In the garage also?

If both are out of the kitchen area, you will need someone qualified to demo it. The chimey got a few feet over the roof. You can't just remove it. It's a big undertaking and rather involved. You don't want the whole chimney to crumble on you as you demo it.

Someone I know did it. She had a contractor company do it as she was an extension on the house. So they did it at the same time.
